Can't get through projects without multiple crashes?

huskereurocat wrote on 4/10/2019, 3:23 PM

Is anyone else experiencing multiple crashes just to get through a 2-3 day project? This last project has been the worst. I have 14 versions of the project file now and 5-6 of them are due to the crashes. I'll be editing away and all of a sudden the preview pane will freeze first, then the rest of the program after I click elsewhere on the time line a couple of times and then to (not responding) and then a opaque white screen. The box never comes up to send a report to Magix so I haven't sent anything yet. I have to stop the program via task manager. There has to be another solution besides resetting the program every week or two now. I'm getting tired of having to completely reset my all my preferences and properties as well as my VASST EventTools. I use it to insert crossfades in my project that can have 100+ clips. Does anyone have any solutions or thoughts for that matter?

@huskereurocat you do not provide much for anyone to be able to help you. The more details you provide about your systems and project, the better members may be able to make suggestions to help you.

Computer specs, CPU, RAM, GPU/vRam/driver, what version and build of Movie Studio, project settings, source media specs. Has it been stable in the past and suddenly started to crash, or has it always been like this?

I'm using Movie Studio Suite 16. This has been an issue since I started using MSS 16 in favor of 15 for the faster render times that the NV Encoder offers. It intensified since I re-installed W10 on my machine and started installing all my programs from scratch, just over 2 months ago.

Can I link the project file? If so, how do I do that?

Those are the correct specs of my system. I've updated all drivers from AMD(CPU), MSI(MoBo), Nvidia (GPU) and Samsung M.2 driver.

My project settings are below.

Which drivers exactly do you use for your GPU's.
Further you gave only the program settings of Vegas,

- not which GPU exactly
- not your buildnr. of Vegas Pl 16,
- not the MediaInfo of the used source files,
- not your Windows buildnumber and
-not which CPU exactly (only that it is AMD).

@huskereurocat it would be important for you to post the specific driver you are suing for the GTX 1060. I use AMD, but have read that Nvidia GPU's get a bit cranky with Movie Studio and Vegas Pro. I'm sure members here will be able to determine if your driver needs to be changed (newer or older), as it is possible many of your problems my be caused by a fussy GPU.

Thanks, but OBS says nothing about the specifics of that videofile.
OBS is a good program to record screencaptures but there are settings you better can not use and others are the best for Vegas editing.
That all you can see through the free app MediaInfo you can download.

Here is the media info specs for my OBS game capture file. I also included the short rendered clip that I made in MSP16. I do use the same settings as you outline in the attached photos, except for Generate File Name without Space is unchecked in my settings. That shouldn't matter right? BTW, these are the settings recommended for my system as well on the OBS Discord Channel under troubleshooting. I've also seen on this video at 8:05

where Handbrake can be useful when editing big files. Doesn't creating a proxy accomplish the same thing?

You missed part 2 from j-v's link, which requests Vegas File Properties. Anyway, assuming your footage is being decoded by so4compoundplug.dll, try disabling it.

Note To Everyone: If someone's media is AVC or XAVC-S, and they're having to use Task Manager to stop a hung VMS15+ or VP15+, disabling so4compoundplug is currently the most likely cure.

Same OBS recording settings, just with different footage. It seemed to lock up when I tried to view one of the stills that I put in the timeline. Here is the media info file on the still. Maybe it will give a clue as to why this is happening. Last time it happened on an mp4 1.7 second clip and this time a still that had been panned.

I am having multiple crashes too on MS 16 Platinum. I will attach the crash profile data in hopes that someone can help me out. I am running a Lenovo mini computer with 500 GB SSD. It mostly just greys out and says non responsive, so I usually have to wait about 2 - 4 minutes for it to come back to responsiveness. Sometimes it just crashes completely. I am perplexed and disappointed iin MS 16.
