can't import long videos V22 build 194

john.b wrote on 11/22/2024, 10:19 AM

Hi all,

in Vegas 22 build 194 I'm not able to import long videos (8 hours in this case), when I import a long video a black thumbnail appears in the Project Media window, but nothing in the timeline.

I have shorter videos, two hours, two and a half hours that I can import without problems.

For example a video I can't import in Vegas 22, was exported from Vegas 22 with these settings:
HD 1080
Profile High
Frame rate 29,970
Progressive Scan
Pixel aspect ratio 1,0000
VBR 4.000.000 bps
NV Encoder
Audio 48 KHz 384.000 bps
the file size is 4.36 GB

In Vegas 21 I'm able to import this video and all other long videos without problems.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

RAM 32 GB
VGA NVIDIA 4060 Ti 16 GB

@john.b I did not have such a long hour video material so created a .veg on a new timeline where I copied 10 times of a 1.5 hour long 4K (UHD) mp4 video (which was shot on a Sony FX-30), thus creating a pseudo 15 hour long video, and imported this .veg on a new timeline (hence nested). It took a little while (5 minutes or so) but VEGAS Pro 22 (B194) loaded it without a problem. Just FYI.

@Shinra Bansho Thank you for the test, if you have time, please try to import this video (more than 8 hr), here I can import the video in Vegas 21 but not in Vegas 22

@john.b I rendered more than 6 hours with Vegas Pro 22 b 194 following the template you mentioned above . After that I imported that file in a new Vegas Project. No problem at my laptop from signature with default settings at Video and File I/O. Look how it loaded

@john.b Loads fine in VP20 doesn't load in VP22

john.b wrote on 11/22/2024, 4:38 PM

@UltraVista Thank you, I suspect that in VP22 there is a limit (I don't know if it's wanted) to the length of imported videos, I'll wait for further feedback then I'll have to contact support...

@john.b, I downloaded this 520MB file. It loads into my VP 22 and VP20 (I do not have VP21) without spitting any error but both show only black screen, no audio peak. It does not play at all.

@Shinra Bansho it is a video of a black screen other than a few seconds of TEST VIDEO at beginning. Are you using Intel for your GPU decoder, maybe that's why it displays in VP22 for you, no visible video track on timeline with Nvidia GPU decode.

john_dennis wrote on 11/22/2024, 5:36 PM

Vegas 22-194 doesn't interpret the whole 8+ hours of video while other versions do.

Turning off all traces of GPU allowed Vegas Pro 22-194 to see the whole 8+ hours of video.

I'm going to restore my system image and forget that we talked.

@john.b I use my NVIDIA RTX4070 for hardware decoding. (iGPU is disabled.)

The solution (here) to import this or other 8+ hr videos in VP22 194 is to "enable legacy AVC decoding" in the File I/O preferences.

Seems strange to me, is this normal?

UltraVista wrote on 11/22/2024, 6:08 PM

It's a bug with the new decoder (mxcompoundplug.dll) if I click on the timeline slither and check properties it shows it as active decoder.

john.b wrote on 11/22/2024, 6:21 PM

When "enable legacy avc decoding" is enabled, the plugin in the properties is so4compoundplug.dll (and it works)
