Greetings,

Specs:

Processor    12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700K   3.60 GHz

PROBLEM
VEGAS WILL NOT OPEN WITHOUT CRASHING. I can't see the splash window long enough to determine where it crashes. Sometimes the splash window will not display at all.

DETAILS

Fault Process Details
   Process Path:        C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 18.0\vegas180.exe
Process Version:     Version 18.0 (Build 527)
   Process Description: VEGAS Pro
Process Image Date:  2021-05-03 (Mon May 03) 23:45:44

Over the weekend, I purchased a new desktop.  I had the C: drive "cloned" so that I wouldn't have to install all new product/licence/etc.  Perhaps this has to do with Pro 18 crashing upon splash window display.
My account on the website states
"Device name:     WEBERKURT-D01
Change name Deactivate
Device information:     Windows computer with:
- Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit
- 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700K
- 32541 MB RAM"

It appears as if the program is installed, but something is preventing it from opening.

ACTIONS:
1.  Uninstall/reinstall, restart computer.
2.  Reset settings.
3.  Checked the forum.
4.  Sent error/crash problem details via crash window.

I have a feeling I'm overlooking something simple.
What do you suggest?

Thanks (and I added all of the specs because the forum directors say that all of it is important).

Did you tried to do that all or not?

I have done all of those. Also ran system scan per Microsoft. This computer is less than 4 days old so I'm sure it's not outdated hardware!

I have always had to reinstall Vegas when updating hardware or making a new computer. Cloning does not save all of the registration information.

@Kurt-Weber

"I had the C: drive "cloned" so that I wouldn't have to install all new product/licensce/etc."

I recently went through this process when my son dropped an adult beverage into the keyboard of his six year old laptop that he uses for his business. He had two brand new laptops that were not configured for running his business software.

I removed the SSD from the old laptop, made an image of it on another machine and restored that image onto the SSD in the new laptop.

************************************* This step is key ******************************************

The hardware configuration of the old image and the new hardware do not match.

Download the installation files for Windows 10 (or 11).

Link to Media Creation Tool:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10?d2784474-fdb0-4e9d-9e47-5e88c0e053ec=True

From the Desktop on the new machine, run the Windows 10 installation files as an "in-place upgrade". This will allow Windows to find the correct drivers for the new hardware.

When the process is complete, delete the old installation of Windows that Microsoft kept for you. (After all, you have a clone that you can re-use if you mess this up.)

This effort creates a nice clean machine, but in most cases, does not relieve you of the responsibility of authenticating all of your licensed software.

You can do that for Vegas here:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/support/service-center/

You may have to remove any reference to the old machine in My Products before you can add the new machine.

OK. I've un/re installed a few times. Are there residual files that need to be manually deleted along with an uninstall?

Sorry, than I cannot help you further because I did never cloned the C:/ with software installations to a new computer.
Maybe it is better to start from the beginning with only Windows on the new computer.
BTW .
1. Strange to get W10 on a new computer....
2. On my desktop 1( Windows 11), desktop 2( Windows 10) and laptop (Windows 11) I don't have your problem module that is causing your problem:  C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OpenCL.dll

When you get a good running machine. Save an image of the boot drive with this software.

@j-v

Many businesses still run Windows 10. It's still "a thing".

The new desktop is running a different graphics than the old one. It may be that V18 is confused. I may try switching the cards and see if that helps.

Thanks for the input--though that solution seems "intense" for having a computer that's 4 days old...

it would seem that Magix/Vegas would be a lot easier to manage than having to go through that many hoops!

Probably I missed that option in your written specs.
I only see there the GPU Intel 770 as a part of your processor than cannot be switched with, but only disabled in the taskmanager

If OpenCL is triggering the fault, perhaps you need to update your graphics driver. If using Intel, this doesn't apply, but if you have a Nvidia GPU, use studio drivers, not game ready. Ditto for AMD, use their enterprise pro drivers, not the game drives. Don't worry, if you're a gamer, your games will still work.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)
