can we keyframe a P&Z mask?

I just read a great tutorial by John Rofrano on how to use the Pan and Zoom mask creatively. I've done that, and like it, but here's what I'd like to do.

I have a photo of me in front of some mountains (in Banff), and I want to start with the full photo, then slide it to the left side of the screen while also masking it to show only the sliver (about 25%) which includes me. At the end, I'm on the left side, and the other media show up on the right.

Works great, but I can't seem to add keyframes to the mask. Well, I can add them, but they seem to have no effect?

Hmm, while I'm at it, I can't seem to move the mask vertices, either. I click on the normal edit tool (in the Pan and Zoom window), but no go.

Got it to work! I don't know what I did wrong the first time. Neat stuff, though!

I'd like to improve the quality. Maybe I should use smaller photos (these are original size) and/or different render settings.

Let me know what you think of the technique, though, and all comments and advice are more than welcome!

It sure is a great visual effect. What I would have done, I would have cut yourself out from the picture then save it as a PNG on a transparent background. Then done what you did there. It would then have a 3D effect.

I'm not sure I understand, LightAds.

Take the photo into Photoshop (I have Elements 8) and make everything but me transparent? And then put that event on there instead of the current one, or are you saying keep the current one and put the new one on top?

I've seen some of the 3d-appearing stuff with photos, but don't understand how they're done.

thanks for sharing ... Vegas also permits bezier tools - you can use that tool to cut yourself out without leaving Vegas ... bezier is as much a challenge here in Vegas as it is in Photoshop (wink) ...
The 3D effect is that you can slowly zoom in on the mountains while slowly zoom out your image ... it produces the sort of 3D effect you see in movies ( the dolly closes in while the camera zooms out), that sort of thing ... TeeTime is our Vegas group guru for bezier ... he might have a tutorial hidden somewhere...
Let me go play with it a bit. . .
You know, if you've ever used bezier tools in Photoshop, it should very easily transfer to Vegas...

DogWalker, I used PhotoImpact but you can use Photoshop to do the same thing. Extract part of the picture you want and cut it out and paste it onto a transparent background and save it as a PNG file (PNG ). Then in Vegas make 2 video tracks. On the lower track put your scene and on the top track put your PNG file. Then play around with Pan and zoom til you get the effect you want.

I just did one of these. I cut the windows out of the truck so I could use different scenery.

Hey my turn!
An experimental video I made a few years ago. I took still images inside my car, cut out the windows with Photoshop, saved with transparent background as PNG. I put the camcorder through the sunroof and drove down the same street four times to record the video. The sound was just random stations on the car radio.
