Canon R5 footage wont drop into Vegas 19 timeline

HeavyMetal wrote on 1/18/2023, 9:19 PM

I have a copy of Vegas 15, and Vegas 18, that these clips drop into no problem, and it worked for a time on Vegas 19, and then one day (maybe after an update?) Vegas 19 just stopped accepting these clips into the timeline off my R5. Not sure why this is, or how to solve it. I didn't specifically notice immediately upon making any changes or updates because I am not always working with R5 clips. Any ideas?

The info of the clips in question is:

Hmm... any chance you could share a sample clip that we can try, to see if we can reproduce the error on another machine? Via dropbox or google drive, or a similar file-share service?

What is exactly your hardware and driverversions?

I will say this problem persisted on a previous GPU as well, that being an AMD Vega 56.

It is especially puzzling to me that it drops into the timeline in Vegas 15 and 18 no problem still, as we speak.

When importing via menu that way, I get: "Warning: An error occurred while opening one or more files. The file could not be opened. Make sure the file exists and that you have access to the file/folder."

I was able to open your sample file on the ancient system in my signature.

The Mediainfo of the sample file doesn't match the Mediainfo that you posted earlier.

I am not trying to open a single specific file, I am trying to open any file at all recorded from this R5, so didnt feel matching the exact file was particularly relevant. In any case, here is the info off that file I linked in here:

No problems with typical mp4 footage, whether it be from a drone, or another camera (or frankly, just transcoded to another codec mp4 of these R5 files). bit baffling.

I was reading about the latest TopazVEAI (upscaler) output files not being compatible with Vegas, I normally wait a couple of weeks before updating so don't have a sample file. That's not your problem though, the topaz file would not be able to loaded by anyone with Vegas, your problem is stranger, there seems nothing remarkable about your file.

My guess... we all can open the file, so the issue isn't with VEGAS being generally incompatible with the file... so something with your system is preventing VEGAS from accessing the file properly... what, I couldn't even start to guess, but something is up there.

OK, so the file imports, but playback is unstable with black frames... so we have confirmation of trouble with this file from one more user, this is a start. I see you have a 3090 GPU... I'm going to test this on my 3090 machine next. What driver version are you using?
