If I remember by previous experience on handling an XF100 files, Vegas 10 handle ok.
But the problem, does XC10 is still using the same MPEG2 based MXF for 1080 resolution or newer XF-AVC ?
if you had a chance, better test first or find any downloadable MXF sample.

http://gadgetflux.net/canon-xc10-review/ - found one a 4K version but this is XF-AVC.

Thanks set,
Yes, it records XF-AVC Long GOP (NTSC: 24p/30p) in HD at 35 or 50mbs. Reviews say it imports easily into Premiere or Edius...no mention of Vegas at all. I always test new stuff before a shoot...hopefully, it will work or be easily transcoded to work.

Wish I can try it... having trouble downloading those large 4K files, 3 times failed due to slow connection :(

Well, it seems that just about every NLE except Sony Vegas can import and edit XF-AVC files from Canon! There must be some folks here using C300s. How are you handling these files other than buying a separate conversion program?

Neglecting this codec only serves to further isolate Vegas Pro and drive users to competing software.
Sad.

have you tried a trial version of VP13? Or maybe provide a sample to download for us to test in VP13. VP10 is rather old.

Edit: It seems there is in general an issue with this codec, especially with older software. Here is something I found on B&H website under reviews of this camera:

C300, just like XF100, is still MPEG2 based MXF format, so there is no big trouble editing them.

Thanks for that review attachment, Old Smoke. That NLE list seems to be the latest upgrades of everything out there!
I'm committed to using/testing the camera on this project. Since I'm on one of those "older, stable systems", I guess I'll just buy that $30 conversion program that "decodes/re-wraps" the files to their base MPEG2 format for editing in Vegas.
Thanks again.

Have you tried the free Catalyst Browse? You could also download and install VP13. If it works, copy the codec file that VP13 uses into VP10; may or may not work.

Funny, I was thinking of Catalyst Browse as I wrote the last post. Apparently, the files do not import into VP 11, 12 or 13 without some kind of conversion.
I'll download and try it.
Thanks.

Canon must make their own GoPro-Studio alike application or Catalyst Browse application for this.

It was an old post... but finally able to experiment using sample video above... Sony Vegas Pro 13.453 or Magix Vegas Pro 14.161 can read MXF XF-AVC files successfully without complexity.

If the playback is slow, just right click on these files in Project Media > Create Video Proxy.

Same file preparations to DJI Osmo's footages.

On the contrary, Sony Catalyst Browse version 2016.2.0.353 (2.3) still cannot read these MXF XF-AVC files!

I've been interested in this camera and the XC15. I downloaded the "original" files from the vimeo links in the gadgetflux.net review. The files with the following properties open in Vegas Pro 12, 13 and 14. Vegas Pro 9, 10 and 11 were unable to deal with them.

Back before SCS/Sony programs wrote most of their stuff to their own folders, all the codec's would be shared. You could get the newer codec by installing a demo that included the newer codec version & it would be supported among all the SCS/Sony programs (or have your mpeg-2 files open in another SCS/Sony program, for example).  At one point Sony changed this. So give this a shot:

Find Program Files - Sony - Vegas 13 - FileIO Plug-Ins folder.  Find the respective folder you want for the codec & copy it.  Find the Program Files - Sony - Vegas 10 - FileIO Plug-Ins folder, make a backup of the respective codec folder & paste the one from Vegas 13 in to the Vegas 10 location.  Restart Vegas.  Could very well work.  I've done it for some codecs that supported new formats in 12/13 for my copy of 10, like new quicktime/avi container codec versions.

EDIT: I doubt Vegas 14 will work with the sony versions, but might be worth a shot.
