Win2000, Athlon650, 256 MB memory, 40GB 7200RPM disk with >20 GB space. DirectX 8.0 installed.
Video capture screen appears. Ihave rewound to the beginning of the tape from the capture screen, time line OK on camera, when I press the capture or play buttons it announces "no frames captured".
That is it!
Thanks, GG.

With My ATI card I had to make sure that the video software was installed for the card for my capture to work. Through ATI's software I can choose what connects I am using (i.e. Compostite, etc, etc) Until then was I able to get it to work. I like ATI's still frame capture. Makes for good still shots.

Good Luck.

Are you running the demo?
Cheesehole wrote on 12/2/2001, 10:22 PM
i also have this problem but not all the time:
OHCI SIIG TI based 1394 adapter
Sony DSR-11 DVCAM deck
VidCap2

i worked around the problem by hitting play on my deck manually and then hitting the capture button in Vid Cap.

I'm stuck as well. Although my camera is a Canon XL-1. I can't get overlay or any video/control. In device manager, my computer sees my 1394 device, but when I load up VV, and launch capture, just a capture mode screen with no video or control. Is there a certain setting that I'm suppose to make sure to activate as a "default" in VV before I capture? I'm sure it's just some weird a-- setting...help! No one's returning my emails from SF. Maybe the emails aren't going through?
Cheesehole wrote on 12/3/2001, 4:38 PM
does windows recognize the camera? what OS are you using?

in Win2k/Xp you can go Administrative Tools | Computer Management | Device Manager and then find your 1394 adapter. if you hit the plus to expand the tree, you should see your camera listed as a device connected to the 1394 adapter. if not, make sure you've applied the Directx 8 DV update patch. try cycling the power in your camera. try a different cable if you have one. but that's the first step. to get it to be recognized by windows.

in XP, you can preview your footage right in Windows explorer. when you connect a DV device, it will be listed just like a drive in explorer. when you click on it, you'll see the DV output displayed where the file list usually is. it's good for a quick preview anyway.

I have this same problem. VV3 just wont capture any frames for me from my DV camera. Am using a D-Link firewire card. Moved to Win2000 few days ago and the same problem. No IRQ conflicts in the system. I downloaded a demo version of UleadVideo Studio and capturing works perfect there. Why not in VV3?
deef wrote on 12/4/2001, 2:57 PM
Are you guys ALL using only the demo version? What exactly does it do when it "doesn't capture"?
deef wrote on 12/4/2001, 3:15 PM
Your DV deck should be able to be controller via Vidcap, what version are you using?
rufalo wrote on 12/5/2001, 4:03 AM
I am using a registered version of VV3 (build76).
The DV deck responds normally and starts playing when I hit the capture button in VideoCapture 3, but it always says zero frames captured when I hit the stop button in vidcap. The same thing happens also if I control the DV deck manually.

Installed Vegas Video 3 today. Finding the same problem. VV3/computer controlls the DSR30 deck just fine. Can't capture video. Did capture a still shot. Video showing on computer monitor just fine.

Abit KG7 mobo
Rage LT Pro video card
W2K
TI 1394 firewire
Athlon 1600 XP
Direct X 8.1

Any suggestions! This is frustrating. My $19 Ulead Video Studio LE Basic v 4.0 works just fine! Vegas Video 3 doesn't.

Just curious (and I'm no expert), but do you have the "Stop on dropped frames" option enabled under preferences (or options, I forget).

If so, try disabling it to see if you get a good capture. Could be that there is a bit of corruption at the very beginning of your DV footage causing a dropped frame and stopping capture, and that might also explain why capture has succeeded for at least one person who started his/her cam manually.

Just a thought.

The check box (stop on dropped frame) is not checked. When I press the button to capture, immediately I get a "Capture complete" dialog window saying "No video was captured."
Funny thing about this: Deck control and video image on computer monitor work just great! I can set timecode in and out for batch capture just fine.

Abit KG7 RAID mobo
Rage LT Pro video card
W2K SP2
TI 1394 firewire OHCI compliant
Athlon 1600 XP
Direct X 8.1
Soundblaster Live!
Linksys NIC

Would appreciate any more suggestions.

Under Prefernce->Disk management, do you have at least one valid disk setup?
TRS80 wrote on 12/9/2001, 1:18 AM
Thanks for the suggestion,
Yes, I have a valid disk management setup. I have also tried other logical drives in that computer, but obtained the same "failed" result. When checking the preferences/video, VV3 reports the computer is connected to the DSR30. VV3 controls the deck perfectly. Rewinds, and goto's are flawless. The 5 sec preroll works great, everything looks right, but the second I try to capture, I get the dialog/message "No Video captured." I'm wondering, has VV3 been tested with the Athlon XP series of processors? Would/Could that make a difference? I reinstalled Service Pack 2 and DirectX 8.1 along with the codec and still can't capture. I have received no notification of errors either when running the program or in the Win2K log. I am out of ideas on what to try next. I think I will move the 1394 to another machine and see if I can get something to work. Maybe it has a problem although it is controlling the deck like it is supposed to do.

Yes, I have the same problem with Vegas Capture from Vegas Video 3 with Panasonic DV cam.
Everything works, also when I begin to capture (file created in the temp folder) but when I stop the capture, it says "no video captured" and delete the temp file.
Al others capture soft works perfect, like Pinnacle Studio DV, Ulead Media studio .....
Just Vegas do'nt do IT ?? May be a compatibility problem with AMD XP processor ?? More information ??

Hi gang:
After two days of trying to figure out why VV3 won't capture, I moved my 1934 OHCI card to an old computer and installed VV3 to see if I could discover what was going on. The second computer install went fine, and VV3 began to capture immediately without any problems! I captured two small .avi files and saved them. Out of curiosity, I transferred the .avi files back to the first non-working machine. When I launched VV3 and tried to access the two .avi files through VV3, the Explorer panel does not show the files unless I force VV3 to "show all files."
After I force VV3 to show all files, VV3 says the files are not recognized file types and refuses to allow me to put them on the time-line. However, both .avi files play just fine on both computers with the Windows Media Player, and the files have identical properties.
This may narrow the problem. Two identical .avi files, but VV3 will not recognize the files on one computer, but will on the other.
I'm wondering if there is a problem with file handling. I ask this because when I try to access the logical drives in the VV3 Explorer panel, the subdirectories on each drive will not appear unless I first refresh the Explorer window by pressing the F5 key. It appears that VV3 Explorer is not recognizing the directory info correctly when it launches. This might explain why it can't write to the harddrive and therefore, no capture. Just a thought. I do know that I cannot capture to any logical drive on the first computer. Any more ideas?

For what it's worth:

My problem turns out to be two missing entries in the registry. The {C6D72CA1....} and the {DDD....} entries were missing, therefore .avi files and quicktime files were not recognized by Vegas Video 3, without the .avi key, VV3 could not record. Why this entry was not installed in the registry is a mystery. This was a first time install for VV3. After I manually entered the key data, it's recording!

Thanks for fully testing this...I, we, really appreciate it.

We go to great lengths to test a wide range of hardware and OS scenarios, but feedback from the field is invaluable and will only make our products better!

I will forward this on the appropriate people.

Thanks!

TRS80?
can you please share what exactly you changed in the registry file because I have this same problem and haven't been able to capture anything with VV3 since I bought it couple of weeks ago.

Windows 2000
Thunderbird 1GHz
256MB ram
D-Link firewire card
60GB HDD

Thanks in advance
