I am converting Video Files from one format to another befor I can edit them in Movie Studio and I need some help.

The program I am useing to convert my Video Files has two Video Settings.

One is ware I pick my Encaptulation Mathed
mpeg ps
mpeg-ts
asf
mp4
I do not know what one to pick and when I do a search for what everyone is for I get the run around.

Then I have the Video Setting for the CODEC
mp 1v
mp 2v
H264

Now I thought all the ones above this ware Video formats what are these??

Try mpeg-ts and mpeg2. But these are lossy formats, you are better off transcoding to an intermediate format if you don't want to lose quality over the original.
thebrain900 wrote on 1/10/2009, 7:05 PM
Yes that is what I want to do not loss any Image Qwality.

So how do I do what you told me Transcode???
Eugenia wrote on 1/10/2009, 7:14 PM
First of all, can't Vegas read the original files?
thebrain900 wrote on 1/10/2009, 7:37 PM
No the Files are VOB and I can play them on my Computer but Movie Studio will not see them or open them.

So I am useing a Converter to convert them from VOB to anything that Movie Studio can open.

Download the freeware SUPER utility then, and export in DV AVI with it. You will lose very little quality, not visible with the eye.

Try renaming them from .vob to .mpg. Movie Studio 6 or higher should be able to use them on the timeline just fine.
thebrain900 wrote on 1/11/2009, 3:42 PM
What is the whole name of the SUPER utility Program???
Markk655 wrote on 1/11/2009, 5:01 PM
Super(c) by erightsoft.

Ok I whent to the web site and the links there are for Prism Programs
I downloaded Prism but is Prism Pro also free to use all the time??
And this is the right program to get is this what you ware talking about??
Eugenia wrote on 1/11/2009, 8:39 PM
No, the freeware you need to install is called SUPER, not Prism. Here's an alternative download:
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/SUPER-Download-23696.html
Download it from the RO link, not the US one. The US one has the wrong file.

Ok thanks for all the help I think I am almost there.
When I go to convert the VOB File I pick output Format AVi and Output Audio MP3 and Output Contanner MPEG 2

And it converts the VOB File and when I try to play it I just see Spinning Lights.

Am I puting the rong CODECs with the Rong Contanner???
What should I pick for Output Contanner and Output Format for best resalts??
Eugenia wrote on 1/12/2009, 11:54 AM
Do it like this:
http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/images/proxy2.png
Use more resolution than the suggested 640x360 if your VOB files are higher resolution, and more bitrate, at around 3000 kbps.
thebrain900 wrote on 1/12/2009, 2:21 PM
Ok I am almost there I did everything the way you told me to and when I play the File I get a Pixaleted Picture and the sound is Choppy.??

I did not know what one to pick I did not know if they ware bad Qwlity???

Then I have the Video Setting for the CODEC
mp 1v
mp 2v
H264
And as for this I did not know what one to pick here and if it was Poor Qwality??
Please tell me about these befor I go on with SUPPER thanks
Eugenia wrote on 1/12/2009, 2:32 PM
I am telling you to go to SUPER, not to what you are using. And if you render the way I tell you on SUPER, it will work with Vegas. If it's pixelated, as I said above, you tweak the resolution and bitrate.

I am not sitting next to you, so I can't possibly know what kind of footage you got there to tell you 100% exactly what to pick in the options of SUPER or Vegas.
thebrain900 wrote on 1/12/2009, 3:04 PM
OK I did use the settings you told me to and I set the Bit Rate to the MAX and I set the Resalotion to 720 X 480
And still get nothing??
Now what???
Eugenia wrote on 1/12/2009, 3:17 PM
>And still get nothing??

What do you mean you got nothing? I am sure SUPER saved somewhere the file. Right click and pick up the output file management option to tell SUPER where to export the file after you click "encode files".
thebrain900 wrote on 1/12/2009, 4:38 PM
I am sorry what I ment was SUPPER did export the Video File as MPEG but when I play it it sounds choppy and looks Pixeleted.

I had the RES set to 720 x 480 and the Bit Rate as High as it can go.

And it still looks like that.
Eugenia wrote on 1/12/2009, 4:55 PM
How big are the files you are dealing with? If you can upload a sample online, the smallest of these VOB files, then I can take a look and tell you how to export. Remember, I need a real file, not via youtube.

Otherwise I can't help you because you don't give me enough info. If your VOB file is 720x480 and you exported as 720x480, then when you bring that file on vegas, you need to use the right project properties for it to not look pixelated.
thebrain900 wrote on 1/12/2009, 5:12 PM
I did not even bring my Exported ile into Movie Studio yet.
As soon as SUPPER Exports my Video File as MPEG I go to play it from my Desktop and it looks and plays like shit.
I use Power DVD to play all Video Files.
I will tell you the setting I use in SUPPER
Video Aspect Ratio 4:3
Video Size 720 X 480
Video CODEC MPEG-2
Contanner MPEG there was no MPEG-2 in the Cantanner dropdown list
Video Frame Rate 29.97
Audio AC3
Audio Compresson 128
Audio Freq 44.100 Hz
And video Bit Rate I put to the Max as high as it when in the dropdown list.

Am I doing ok with my Settings??
My VOB File is to big to upload sorry.
Eugenia wrote on 1/12/2009, 6:05 PM
Do not use more than 9,000 kbps for bitrate, it's too much if you use the max that SUPER allows.

Now, for the VOB file, if the vob file is also 4:3 720x480 then you exported correctly from super, so I don't see why it's so bad when you play it back.
thebrain900 wrote on 1/12/2009, 6:50 PM
I am going to try it again and I will use 9,000 kps Bit Rate this time.

I used the Max Bit Rate because I thought the more Bits the Higher Video Qwality?????
Eugenia wrote on 1/12/2009, 6:54 PM
Yeah, but not that much. 29 mbps is too much for a VOB file.
thebrain900 wrote on 1/12/2009, 8:03 PM
What did you meen the Max Bit Rate is to mutch for a VOB File?

I am not exporting to a VOB File I am exporting to a MPeg
