Color Balance

In Media Generators, I have had a constant quirk and wonder if anyone else has seen this one. If you use Color Balance with any other Media Generator say Brightness and Contrast, the preview window will go black until you turn off the Color Balance.

Color Balance alone works just fine. But it does not like the company of others. She is solo only...

Not exactly sure what you mean by "Media Generators" but if I apply the "VideoFX" Color Balance to a video clip or a "Media Generator" say Desert . I have no problem applying another VideoFX say Bump Map or Brightness and Contrast.... It seems to work fine for me.

My bad... video FX is what I was referring too. If I add Color Balance to a clip, set the adjustments and make certain it is turned on, and then add another Video FX to the same clip and turn it on, then my preview window goes black everytime until I turn off the Color Balance.

Weird huh.

But thanks for trying.

I've had this exact problem since Vegas 12. I rarely use the Vegas Color Balance if I don't have to, because it sucks. I'll add Levels and Color Corrector and as soon as I add Color Balance to the clip, I know it's gonna freak it out and those black boxes will appear. Sometimes if you change order of fx, the Color Balance works. If you use Color Balance, you have to use it alone, because it doesn't like combining other fx with it. Earlier versions of Vegas never had this problem. I can add more fx to a clip in Vegas 10 than I can in Vegas 12-14 or they would crash. I've been using Vegas program since Vegas 4 came out and could give seminars on Vegas, so I know what I'm talking about. Instead of wasting time on changing icons and removing tools from the toolbar and irritating software verification crap, Magix should work on making the program work better and more stable (ie. closer to their Samplitude and Sequoia programs) and before someone says it might be hardware-related, It's not. I build computers and have tested Vegas on at least 30 computers in my lifetime. I've been shooting and editing video for 20 years. Just now, I was editing a corporate video and these stupid black boxes appeared when I added the Color Balance. I can't get rid of them from the video clip, even when I delete Color Balance from the fx chain. My P2 camera shoots mxf files and that's all I edit. Never have a problem, with any effect effect, except for Color Balance.

I see no problem here in VP14 with Color Balance + Brightness and Contrast + ColorCorrector on Panasonic GH4 UHD footage with AMD HD 6970 both enabled or disabled.

It sounds like a GPU-related issue.

  • Does it happen with Options>Preferences>GPU acceleration of video processing both on and off?
  • What OS, GPU and GPU driver version are you using?
  • What format is within your MXF files?
