Computer Specs

I've been a Vegas Pro user for many years, upgrading several times. I'm on my 3rd machine and I've always favored Intel processors with NVIDIA graphics. I have always had lagging issues not matter what settings I used. I'm looking to upgrade my machine again and move from VP18 to the most current version. I'm looking at a Dell G15 5530 gaming machine. I would appreciate any input you have on the machine. Here are the specs:

Processor

13th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-13900HX (36 MB cache, 24 cores, 32 threads, up to 5.4 GHz Turbo)

Graphics Card

NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060, 8 GB GDDR6

Memory *

32GB DDR5, 2x16GB, 4800MT/s

I have a ASUS ZenBook Pro laptop and the specs are very similar. I use it with VP 21 and 22 and don't notice lag, though I also use footage that's well suited for editing. You can see its performance in two VEGAS benchmarks in my signature. You can try the older benchmark with your VP 18 system and see how it compares to mine.

Unless you need a laptop for mobility, this desktop system should be a solid performer even if it's not the low-cost solution.

I really need a laptop. Can recommend a laptop that would work well with Vegas Pro?

Sorry, every laptop I’ve ever owned was best used as a paper weight.

Yes unlike the Dell XPS I had that wasn't fit for video editing the laptop that I use is serving me very well and not that much slower than my dedicated editing desktop. See my signature.

Also see the benchmarks as there are a few laptops in the results.

If you don't mind a larger computer the ASUS ProArt 16" is also great and used by other editors here.

1. A BIG, accurate monitor screen

2 A fast i7 or i9, Series 11000 or better.

  • 2A. A fast Geforce card.

3. At least 32GB of fast memory.

4. When in doubt, refer to #1 above.

I am happy with my ProArt laptop (see the specs in my signiture), and it has lower performance compared to your posted specifications.

So one question is what footage you edit. Before you spent money.

The second question is: have you tried the trial of VP22 on your existing machine? Would do that.
