Constant Crashing in movie studio platinum 16

Kellen wrote on 6/15/2019, 4:15 PM

Hi there,

I purchased the software (Movie studio platinum 16) a few months ago and have had more than a few problems already, but until now I've managed to fix them all myself.

However, today I loaded up the software for the first time in a couple of weeks, and as it loaded up a video project I have been working on recently, the whole programme just closed back down.

I tried various different previous projects and they all did the same thing. Therefore, I loaded up the software from scratch and it worked, until I tried to import any form of media, then it just crashed immediately again.

I have tried different solutions including uninstalling the software and reinstalling and so far nothing has worked.

Considering all the previous issues I've had and the fact that Magix actually expected me to pay them more money for their support help in fixing this. I am strongly considering just giving up and getting Adobe Premiere Pro instead as I am beyond annoyed with both the amount of issues I've had to deal with and the appalling customer service or lack of it, from the creators.

However, I thought I'd try on here for one last attempt first. So if anyone can help me at all, then I'll be eternally grateful.

Thanks

Kellen

Dang, I just bought the software (Movie Studio Platinum 16 Suite) only last month. What I hate is that it is performing well, using GoPro Hero 5, 6, 7 Black footage in either 1080 24/30/60p or the real bummer, 4K 24/30/60p. Why, I even purchased the Ultimate MagicYUV version 2.0, installed the 2.7.3 Avid DNxHD/HR codecs, the Edius Grass Valley GQ/X codecs, and the GoPro Studio 2.5.9 for the Cineform codec for transcoding. This on a "re-furbished" MSI X99A Gaming 7 Motherboard, i7-6800K, 32 GB DDR4-2400Mhz Crucial Ballistix RAM, OS/Apps via Intel 660p 1TB NVME on the native M.2 slot, an additional Intel 660p 2TB NVME on a no-name M.2 to PCI-e 3.0x4 card, an RTX 2070 Founder's Edition GPU, BeQuiet Dark Rock 4 CPU Cooler, and a Western Digital Elements 3TB external USB Drive. Oh, and having to run Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit (1809) on the 1TB drive, with any and all Applications, and forcing myself to use the 2TB Drive for Source/Render/Cache. Man, this computer is too fast for using the above footage. Let alone having to place any Canon 80D MOV All-I 1080p 24/30 on the timeline; or Heaven Forbid that the Transcoded footage from my Sony FDR AX-53 4k 24/30p XAVC-S works so well!

One thing for sure Chief, your system is an overkill for the average Joe.

** I will ask something in relation to VMS16 crashes/hangs, it happen to me also but why upon re-launch I don't get a popup to load the autosaved last project?

* And yes, the tick is marked.

So I ended up having to disable many things such as Multicore, adjusting my dynamic RAM to 0, disabling SO4compound and many others. But eventually I got it working again. Still not great and still occasionally crashes but good enough to finish editing and render the project I needed to finish.

Also yes I did try contacting support and they tried to charge me for it, so not particularly impressed there.

Going forward I think I'm still just going to write off this programme and head on over to Adobe, as I seem to spend more time having to scour the internet for constant fixes to crashes and issues with VMS16, than I do actually using it to edit.

It's shame as the software content is actually perfect for what I need, but the bugs, crashes and total lack of customer service or care from the developers is just too much hassle for me to try and deal with.

Regardless, thank you for your attempt at help and I hope your time with the software goes far better than mine.

Yeah, I know, overkill. Sorry it will be 5 years old in a couple of months (the X99 platform was released by Intel in August 2014). But, I have also learned over the years, to also not load down the computer with superfluous programs and add-ons, which was Learn-ed the hard way. Why a newer GPU (RTX 2070)? Well, I do play one "Trilogy Game" which likes nVidia cards better, and hey, I want slightly faster rendering times, like I see so many people whining about throughout forums everywhere (DaVinci, Premiere, Edius, PowerDirector, our Sister VPX/MEP from Magix, VideoStudio, etc, etc. etc.). Thing is, I don't really use the AMD VCE (signature rig) or NVENC options much, as I primarily use Blu-Ray disks, and my MP4's are more for personal use. And, I usually render via CPU, as I still like the output, in my opinion for my work, is much better and less artifact prone. I am fortunate enough to have saved to be able to build two different computers, both with Magix Vegas Pro and/or Movie Studio, and I do tend to not touch either if they are rendering (I have never won a battle against Murphy yet!), so if either or both platforms are rendering something, via CPU, I go watch some movie on the TV I have, wash dishes, wash clothes, walk around the yard, mow the lawn. In other words, I leave the machine alone and don't try to be Mr. Multi-Tasker extraordinaire (refer back to Mr. Murphy statement).

Oh, and for your question on "...upon re-launch I don't get a popup to load...", no idea. I am not Tech Support, which the link is found at the bottom of the page via "Contact".

The same here. Most of the crashes I experienced are obviously related to the text editor. I can definitively not rely on this piece of software. I wish a update will fix all these matters soon
