Continuously crashing

Robert-Fredericks wrote on 12/26/2020, 9:20 AM

I have been using Vegas when it was still managed by Sonic Foundry, then Sony, now Magix. Magix seems to wish to make it a popular program by installing half finished plugins, like AI models ( which show up 10% of the time in the program) a color grading window stolen from Resolve which is 15% of the value of Resolve. etc... Mediocre plugins are ok- you may sell more copies that way, But at the expense of the core program. Vegas 16 was fine- 17 was buggy 18 crashes ALL THE TIME.

So what is your question?

True-H wrote on 12/26/2020, 10:04 AM

Hi Robert-Fredericks

I have similar problem. I searched crash in the forum and many people having similar problems but some managed to troubleshoot it and fixed it. I don't have time to troubleshoot and any software supposed to work out of the box especially expensive one. I am wasting my time now to find out how to contact sales for refund and back working on Sony Vegas Pro 9.

Is your PC up to specs? :)

@True-H
@Robert-Fredericks
You are coming from older and very much older versions.
Version 18 latest build works great if you at least had had upgraded to another hardware with much different options than was needed for those old versions, But non of you specified the hardware and other options as drivernumbers you are working with.
So from the moment you do that on this userforum you can get the help you need for better working with the program.

@j-v I have a good machine, I use Resolve and Premier also ( It's not my hardware) The UI that Sonic Foundry up in Wisconsin made was and still is the best for editing. Sony maintained it as a professional tool, Magix wants kids to use it so they add 360 fish eye and Colorization, and the phoney color corrector stolen from Resolve. Which is ok, but not at the expense of the core program which CRASHES ALL THE TIME

Hi adis-a3097

Hi j-v

Yes I posted my computer details in my older post. It is a brand new and powerful computer from MainGear and V9 works great in it so I did not expect less when I upgraded to V18. But at this stage I frankly want a refund because I do not have time for troubleshooting.  I am already wasted enough time looking for email to contact Magix. I am very disappointed they released beta version.

@True-H @Robert-Fredericks

I bought Vegas 18 pro a few months ago

I have this 4 year old gaming laptop

Did a clean install , 18 is working perfectly fine over here

Maybe your graphic drivers are not up to date

Robert-Fredericks wrote on 12/26/2020, 10:38 AM

@Wiew My graphic drivers are up to date. I have a newly purchased Nvidia 1060TI . 16 gig of ram. Asus mother board. Quite frankly, if I did not have so many films made on Vegas already, I would just use Resolve now. It so nice, so smooth and stable. There are some features Vegas has that are better, like being able to modify your FPS to anything you want. As I said, I have been using Vegas since the year 2000. And I have made dozens of films. And 16 was fine- 17 buggy. 18 a disaster so far. I am just complaining here. I do not expect anything to change. I will wail for a while longer and learn Resolve better.

And who should that benefit?

Robert-Fredericks wrote on 12/27/2020, 10:10 AM

So, I am rendering a 4 minute film. It gets 80% done and stops. Whenever the render stops, then the only way to continue is to kill the program by shut down with task manager, and start again. Did this about 6 times now. So I try rending it in sections. Because it seems it cannot handle that I have a clip reversed. This has been a bug with Vegas for decades and it is a bug with Resolve as well. If the render is cancelled, the program freezes. Only way forward kill the program. Did you want a tech question? OK...Is there any way to stop a render and continue to edit without having to kill the program with task manager?

I was able to cancel a Voukoder render without a freeze tonight

These are just my thoughts....

I've been reading about program instability of VP18, which is still a "work in progress". I am sure that there will be additional patches in the future, as with any other editing program, including Resolve, etc...

I've always wondered why people come to only complain without giving any specific information and the ability for someone else to reproduce what they are posting about. Is is a "global" issue that affects everyone? Or is it a local issue specifically to that user.

There are many people here in the forum that try to help, yet are never given the information they request or they just hear another "complaint" that has already been stated.

I think most of us here own and use other editing software, and again, any trip to those other forums will reveal people with issues with the software. But I do have to say the maturity level of those with issues seems to be higher than what I have experienced here. They answer direct questions, give detailed specifics, file access, etc. in order to see if the problem is them or the software. And if the software, the programmers now have something concrete to work with, along with reproduction steps.

If people want to come and just rant, stomp their feet, and threaten to go elsewhere, then go. If they want actual help, answer questions asked and provide the information necessary to try and help. And if this is a Vegas problem, the developers will now know how to reproduce and try and fix it.

+ 1 @Reyfox  ... the moan/complain/'grass is greener elsewhere' mode seems to have infiltrated this forum over the last 18 months or so. The tone of the forum is so much different now compared to when I first started on the Sony Vegas Pro forum some 8 or more years ago.
