Copy/paste markers with audio file

BobMoyer wrote on 12/19/2015, 6:39 PM
I have several audio files .vegs to which I have added markers on the beats so that I may later add photos to show in time with the music. I now would like to add two or more of these files together and keep the markers in place but I can't seem to copy/paste from one .veg to another .veg. I have two instances of VegasPro 13 open and can copy the music file but the markers don't come with it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I've done it many times, but it doesn't work quite the way you expect.

Open the project that you want to be second on the timeline.

Turn on Auto Ripple and select options: All tracks, markers and regions.

Insert the audio that you want to be first at 00;00;00. The current tracks, markers and regions will slip down the timeline if all those options were selected in the Auto-Ripple drop down box.

Open the Vegas project that contains the first audio.

In that project, select View / Window / Edit Details / Show Markers. Click the upper left lozenge to highlight the whole marker list. Press Control-C to copy the marker data to the Windows Clipboard.

In you main project, select View / Window / Edit Details / Show Markers. Click the upper left lozenge to highlight the whole marker list. Press Control-V to to paste the marker data.

The markers will appear on the first part of the timeline.

You can keep pushing the audio down the timeline as you go, inserting markers from different projects ad nausea.

John,
Thanks for the quick reply. I would never have figured that out!! I am rendering something overnight and I will try this out later tomorrow.

You're welcome. I had to do it last week when an old "friend" asked me to transfer a 33 year old, 3 hour audio tape to CD(s). I cut the project to CD lengths, added markers for tracks and made the CDs. Then, I decided that I should have put it on to one DVD. That's when I used the method I described.
That was the easy part.

Vegasaur has an excellent Marker Tool that would have done it with a few clicks. Saved me several times when I forgot to enable the "save markers" during render for BD or DVD.

Thanks again to both of you. I ended up using the Vegasaur method and accomplished what I wanted very easily.

Timeline Tools is a free Vegas add-in that has a feature that can analyze selected Audio Track Events and automatically place Markers on detected beats.
