countdown at video start drama

genie wrote on 4/2/2005, 3:36 AM

Hi,
Still no joy on solving my problem of inserting a countdown 10-1 in my video as I can find no reference to it in Vegas 5. I even tried rendering part of my documentary to dvd tape with the colour bar and sound tone, hoping it would then give me the option of a countdown sequence that I could then firewire back and create an avi of it that I could use - but no success. My friend who uses Premiere just laughs at my predicament as he says the countdown is just an insert file that you can even change colours and numbers, etc.
Am I missing something here - I have a TV station waiiting for my tape and now I'll look like a complete amateur - bordering on an idiot!
Any comments?

thanks,
the genie.

Well, here are a couple of simple countdowns that I use on my projects. They use Vegas generated text so are self-contained (no external elements needed.) BTW - they only countdown from eight ;-)

Countdown version A

Countdown version B

Here's a veg I found on Sony's website that incorporates a slate with the countdown. Just scroll the page down to the Master Class sub-head. There is a download link there (I figure it would be better for you to read the tutorial and check out the technics used, instead of just providing a direct link to the VEG file ;-)

Sony Pictures Digital Vegas Master Class, Tutorial #1

For what it's worth I haven't seen a countown on video tape for a long time, far more importantly is that your vision should start at an exact hour mark (i.e. any bars and tone start before that), 10:00:00:00 isn't a bad look. Mind you Vegas doesn't make doing that all that easy either.

IF the timecode fx could be reversed on T / L as well as check boxes for hours / mins / secs / frames , that would put an end to all those threads about countdowns...

For now, let's render before and reverse after... and save that file for using with next projects, that's the best we can do. Might as well make a very nice one while we're at it, no?
Not that much a drama...

Mmm, gives me an idea... see "countdown, for once and forever" thread...

I know this is a SUPER OLD message, but I have been having a hard time finding the Sony Pictures Digital Vegas Master Class, Tutorial #1 article with the .veg file in it.

Does anyone still have this that they can post somewhere? Like Dropbox or another site? It also seems the VASST veg files are no more.

Thanks.

In case no one has the file, maybe this will help.

None of the tapes I'd receive before the original thread date had countdowns on them. If you put a standard of 5 seconds black before the start that's all I needed.

There are some classic film countdowns at archive.org
