Creating Mpeg2HD file with audio (Programme Stream

John Lewis wrote on 6/2/2014, 6:49 AM
I normally create this with no problem on another NLE for playback on my LG TV via USB
The file would be 1920*1080 and the stream would include audio and video
How can i create this file in Vegas 12, all my attempts so far produce video only
I appreciate the separate audio export but my TV won't recognise separate files

We'll need to know more about the specs of the video itself.

If you open of your source videos in MediaInfo, what does it show for your clip's resolution, frame rate and audio and video codecs?

You can create a MC AVC MP4 or MC MPEG2 file. For an MP4 file you can use one of the MC AVC internet templates. For MC MPEG2 you can use one of the Blu-ray templates but you have to customize it. You have to uncheck the "Save as separate elementary streams" checkbox on the systems tab and then check the "Include audio stream" checkbox on the Audio tab.

MC AVC MP4 will encode faster based on your system but, since you are not streaming but use USB, you may want to increase the bitrate to 28,000,000 and the average to 20,000,000.

just in case i may have caused confusion the Video is a Sony TD10 clip with stereoscopic switched off for 2D viewing
I should have said after transfering the file onto an usb stick
I will try tghe mp4 with MC

Though what you want is an admirable goal and it most assuredly can be done, it may not be worth pursuing. You can multiplex your MPEG-2, AVC and audio elementery streams into a .ts or .m2ts wrapper using tsmuxer. This gives you more flexibility than the limitations imposed by some render templates and codecs.

Since much of what I do goes to Blu-ray or DVD, if I want a single file, I just mux it from the assets that I already have. All my devices play one or both of those file types.

This tool is worth trying even if you choose to do another render to a single file. It comes in handy for all kinds of things. One advantage is adding multiple audio streams without going through the DVD / Blu-ray authoring process. Or replacing them individually for that matter.

Then, if you persist:

File Render As:

MainConcept MPEG-2 (*.mpg, *.m2v, *.m2t, *.mpa)

Program Stream NTSC

Customize Template

Output Type: ATSC

Edit the page with the parameters to match your expected output. (If frame rate = 24p, the I-Frame must equal 12). Slide the Video Quality Slider to 31.

The Include Audio box will be checked for you.

Save the template with a name you like.

Here are two that work. One for 29.97 interlaced and one for 23.97 progressive from the MPEG-2 Blu-ray templates.

Place them in the C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Sony\Render Templates\mpeg2-mc folder and they will show when you render to MainConcept MPEG-2 (*.mpg, *.m2v, *.m2t, *.mpa).

You can do the same with the MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4, *.aac) template.

Start with the Sony Tablet 1080p option and tinker until you get all the satisfaction that you deserve.

They are greyed out in the MC AVC BluRay templates but not in the Internet templates. Try the MPEG2 BluRay as I mentioned earlier.

Thanks john for your suggestions
Grass Valley Edius can achieve this wiith no effort at all, I was hoping that Vegas could have done it too

Mpeg2 Bluray, audio is greyed out

MVC Internet settings 1080 work, and recognised but on a time spent
Vegas took 4 minutes for a 1min 40 sec file

Edius for the same file in Mpeg2 took 40 seconds with a sharper picture

Thanks for all replies. This project was started in Vegas hence looking for similar workflow

John, I believe you didn't read my earlier post on how to enable the audio tab? You have to switch off "save as separate elementary stream" and then you can enable the audio. I have done it several times because Vegas can't read the separate video file, nor does WMP. Did you increase the bit rate for the MC AVC Internet template as I mentioned? I offered that template because it renders very fast with CUDA on my system, faster then MPEG2.

Did you download and use the two MPEG-2 templates that I customized for you? MPEG-2 usually goes quite fast in Vegas.

Based on the hardware that you show in your system specs you would probably get good quick renders with the i7-3770 and Quick Sync using the:

Sony AVC/MVC (.mp4, *.m2ts, *.avc)

AVCHD 1920x1080 - 60i

render templates.

On my i7-3770k, the renders with the Encode Mode set to Automatic finish in about 1/3 of real time.
OldSmoke wrote on 6/3/2014, 10:29 AM
you should not leave it in Automatic but rather select the correct encoding process for your card; Nvidia = CUDA, AMD/ATI = OpenCL or "Use GPU" in the case of Sony AVC.

There is no QuickSync for a 3930K. As I mentioned earlier, I didn't like QuickSync at all. Maybe it works for screen captured game videos but it looked bad with actual footage. It also wasn't any faster, the GTX570 I had at that time did an incredible job rendering to MC AVC which I prefer over Sony AVC.
