CS 5.5 Master Collection $179.80 (Ed Version)

If you are a qualifying student or faculty member you can use the code SAVE80EDU to save 80% off Adobe products until 3/3. My wife is a teacher & I am taking grad classes, so we both qualify...

This post is NOT intended to steer anyone away from using Vegas. Vegas is still my main editor and we already have CS 5.5 at the studio & on my work laptop that I take home. However, my wife wants to learn Photoshop & maybe a couple other applications like Dreamweaver, so this is a great time to try it out...

EDIT: Remember you have to prove that you you are actually a teacher or student. You will need to submit an ID card, transcript, etc.

as a registered teacher i just picked up the suite for $80AUS. mainly i want it for dreamweaver, but wouldn't be saying no to the rest either at that price!

i have dl'd edius trial and was thinking i might just invest in it if i did decide to jump ship. at least this way i'll have ppro as a ready to go option.

and NO, i haven't actually decided to change nle's, but i'm so disappointed with the way vegas seems to be going that the more tools i have readily available the better*.

*this latest wobble in my loyalty was brought on by the print to tape bug. i mean really, what sort of beta testing let that through!?

Seriously, despite your disclaimer, do you think that it is in good taste to be advertising Adobe products on the Vegas forum?
NickHope wrote on 2/22/2012, 12:21 AM
I don't think it's too bad John, as it's not just PPro but the collection that includes a number of programs that SCS doesn't compete with. After all, Vegas Pro has fairly recently added support for psd layers, so by implication is encouraging us to work with an Adobe product.
Editguy43 wrote on 2/22/2012, 12:29 AM
Do either of you know if the ED version put any watermarks or weirdness on the finished product when you make movies.

I have always wanted to try PPRO and the real photshop and this is a GREAT way to get into that software.

There are many loyal Vegas users who use After Effects and Photoshop on a weekly basis. PP is only one of many applications, so maybe $20 of the cost is going towards PP and the rest to everything else you get in the suite...

I also teach technology classes. I am the ONLY one on staff who even mentions Vegas Video in my presentations. 99% of the students I have met have never even heard of Vegas Video - all they know is iMovie, FCP and PP. After exposing students to the benefits of Vegas, I have probably sold more copies of Vegas than most on this forum.

However, with Vegas 10 I backed-off. First it crashed during my demos. Then it rendered clips to black. How embarassing. I still PERSONALLY use it 95% of the time because I get work done in half the time, but when I talk to students, I promote what works. If Vegas 11 starts working correctly, I'll start presenting it as a viable option again.

Editguy - The student version works exactly like the full retail version except that your license has more restrictions - like you cannot use your license to qualify for an upgrade to CS6.0 etc. when it is released... However, you can still download patches & updates to the version you have a license for.

jc, i echo rhino's sentiments entirely.

i also teach; photoshop, dreamweaver, etc., so getting the bundle for any educator is almost a necessity considering it's extensive deployment within the education system.

and like rhino, i not only praise vegas but recommend it wholeheartedly (though recommend my students pick up 8 or 9 s/h, or studio since i don't have the time to sort out later version problems with them!).

and i might add, there's an awful lot of 'teachers' on this forum who i'm sure will / would be grateful for a head-up on ANY software special - as can be seen in the frequent GOTD postings which can prove most useful to nearly any member, let alone teachers...

btw paul - no watermark or any crippling, just cheap price ;-)

Thanks for that tip. The code is actually "SAVE80EDU" - "SAVE80ED" came back as invalid. Also it is a code for any of the Educational software. Anyone else can use "SWITCH" for 50% off the full retail.

Having said that I was happy aboutgetting Lightroom the other day for so cheap - cheaper than the Teacher/Student version - but had I waited a few days and gone this route it would have been even cheaper. (89 - 80%). And Photoshop extended on it's own is only $39.80.

And it is true - many of use do use Adobe products. As much as some people may want it to be, Vegas is not the "be all" of the post production world.

That deal is now gone, unfortunately. the asterisk under the offer now reads:

"Save US$70 with code SAVEONEDU. Ends 3/2."

I had my credit card out, went to Adobe.com, and with student ID, today it's only $70 off student price of 449.00, deal ends 3/2. Talk about bait and switch. Yesterday, $89.00, today $379.00. Guess I snoozed too long.
video777 wrote on 2/25/2012, 5:51 PM
I agree with the others that there's nothing wrong with posting this offer. Especially since this is a loyal Vegas user and not someone trying to get people to switch to a different NLE. I have been wanting to acquire a copy of the entire Creative Suite for years. I don't qualify for educational discount but here are my top reasons:

1) I currently use PhotoImpact (formerly Ulead now Corel) which virtually nobody has ever heard of and is no longer being developed. I want to switch to PhotoShop.

2) I have a number of programs that do things similar to AE but NOTHING that even comes close. When I see sites selling products they almost always are either exclusively for AE or AE and FCP and PP.

3) It is important to me to be skilled in using various NLEs. I generally have 3-4 on my system at any given time but like several others have commented, many people have never even heard of Vegas. I use it for virtually everything now but still want to experiment with PP.

"Seriously, despite your disclaimer, do you think that it is in good taste to be advertising Adobe products on the Vegas forum?"

Utterly stupid. A ridiculous thing to say.

I don't believe the things some people on this forum say and the lengths they go to to suck up.

Nothing to do with sucking up.

Do Adobe users post when a new SCS program is out and say if you upgrade now you get 50% off and you can upgrade from any previous version (even version 1.0)?
JimboWHO wrote on 2/25/2012, 11:01 PM
Why do you care what Adobe users do or don't do?

Why should tips about good deals on software that can help forum members be suppressed or stifled?

And who the hell needs a lesson in 'taste'?

Adobe Premiere® Pro CS5.5

Flash® Catalyst® CS5.5
Flash Professional CS5.5
Illustrator® CS5

Would it be a must have to incorporate into the system?

For the price quoted, absolutely.

That price is great for CS5.5 but CS6 is only a couple of months away so bear that in mind. It might have some significant new developments for Photoshop (blur correction and new masking tools) and After Effects (GPU rendering). I own CS5 and will wait for CS6.

I just read elsewhere that the code was a mistake on Adobes part and they've withdrawn it so all EDU products are back to their usual price.
Derm wrote on 2/29/2012, 8:31 PM
It doesnt work that way with Production Premium, they will make you pay for not buying 5.5 (which was a rip off)

I use Production Premium and I love it, however Vegas (despite current disasters) is my go to video program. Premiere still does not feel intuitive and I hate having to add crossfades as an effect
MikeyDH wrote on 2/29/2012, 11:14 PM
I was looking at a price that was already 50% off. Can't do it at that, anyway. Thanks for the input
TheRhino wrote on 3/1/2012, 7:55 AM
I orginally posted this because I thought the price was too good to be true and yet Adobe was honoring it (I received my confirmation email & serial numbers just before posting this thread). Since then, Adobe has stated that they have fixed the price mistake but will still honor all of the sales before the specific time and date they made the correction. The deal is over. The corrected price for CS 5.5 MS is now $699. Previously I was going to buy Photoshop to place on my wife's laptop, but now she has the entire suite. Sweet!

I don't think it's appropriate to advertise other software on this forum. Because Adobe products are an essential part of the production workflow for so many of us, however, I saw this particular post as informational and not as an advertisement.

Speaking personally, I always appreciate it when peers point me to deals like this.
