Departure from forums - indefinite

I know how you feel...I've taken a few hits myself, people calling me "a hobbyist" when I've been doing videos for over 20 years...At first this bothered me and I refuse to post on this forum any longer, but then I thought, "Why should I suffer?".

I put it in my heart to forgive people like that and I'm able to return to this forum and I don't really care if some people make fun of me. It has made a world of difference for me.

musicvid, please reconsider.... your information, contribution and knowledge has been a monumental to this site. I can't tell you how many times I found a solution with your name on it.

Don't let a few bad apples ruin the salad....that's if you put fruits in your salad eh.

Some times people have too strong a feeling about the issue(s) discussed on this forum, and sometimes people need to just take it easy and allow a discussion to flow.....

I normally couldn't care less if someone decides to depart from this forum, but in this case I feel the need to say:

Musicvid, suck it up, and please re-consider. You are an extremely valuable member of this forum, and we need you here to help us with our problems.

and Bob (Farrs) please don't let this get you down, you are an equally valued member which I admire and appreciate for all the help and posts you have provided over the years.

Seems whenever I've gotten angry about posts here, or on other forums, it's more a reflection of the stress I feel in everyday life. But for some reason the internet brings it to the surface. Once the "real world" stress is dealt with, it's easier to come back and deal with the online stuff. I hope that's what this is.

I've learned a lot from MusicVid's posts, and I'd hate to see those end.

Don't let a few bad apples ruin the salad....Bob (farss) is most definitely not a bad apple.

I say this only because, in everyone's haste to encourage musicvid to stay (I want him to stay as well!!), some are assuming that there was somehow a villain in this minor scuffle. That is not the case. This whole dust-up was the result of a misunderstanding over a colloquialism that, while used properly, is not necessarily familiar to everyone. It was therefore misunderstood to mean something else.

Bob was quite obviously very taken aback by what happened. I can understand this because he wasn't even trying to be argumentative. I just want to make sure that, even as I encourage musicvid to eventually return to the forum, that I also make sure to support Bob because he did absolutely nothing wrong, and certainly doesn't in any way deserve the moniker of "bad apple."

+1 johnmeyer. There was no villan.

I for one don't get it, unless there's some larger story that we on the forum don't know about.

John Meyer +1
As usual you hit the nail right on the head!!

Just wanted to clarify..

,,,about the bad apples it wasn't directed to anyone, but to those who make fun of others in general.

"Bob was quite obviously very taken aback by what happened."

Indeed, it was like I'd just realised I was driving the wrong way down a one way street. My reaction was as Serena said, I just wanted it to go away, wake up from the nightmare but that wasn'r going to happen so yes, I was pouring oil on troubled waters. I had strong feelings telling me to leave this place for good.

I realise that may sound overly dramatic but I've had a couple of ongoing familiy matters and the same day I had been extremely confronted by meeting an old, dear and younger friend whose l life has been decimated by two major brain bleeds. Personally I have serious doubts about the afterlife but I can confirm there is h-e-l-l to be found in this one.

I really don't want to say much more, I like everyone else want Musicvid back.
We cannot afford to loose members of his calibre.
Actually we cannot afford to loose anyone, everyone brings something to the table.

Bob.

...You know, we haven't had a good discussion about supersampling and it's application in deinterlacing for a while...

(this will make no sense whatsovever to anyone who hasn't been here for a a long time)

+1 more.

Really, there was no issue other that a mis-interpretation of the meaning of a common phrase. Maybe exacerbated by too much coffee !

Bob,
That is the single most heartfelt statement I have ever heard from you, and it's been a decade, hasn't it? I believe every word you just said.

Any equivocation of the word "lie" notwithstanding, I've seen the addictive nature of my involvement with this forum, and my body has told me I need a break. When I start feeling impatient with newbies who ask the very same questions I once did, or feel trepidation over possible responses when I hit the "Post Message" button, it's no longer a healthy situation for either me or my audience, without whom my life as an artist would not exist.

I have been both surprised by, and even chuckled with some of the responses in this thread -- many more than I expected, yet I don't take issue with any of them.

I'm on hiatus, thinking maybe six months or so before a re-entry, and in the meantime I will continue working on subjects that interest me, including broadcast loudness, leveling for the web, the ergonomics of interframe compression, and a couple of other goodies, which will undoubtedly at some point cast me as a "liar" in someone's eyes. After all, I'm a musician by vocation, I only teach math to pay the bills . . .

My best, until then.
;?)

Good to hear from you musicvid.

Look forward to your "re-entry" when you're ready. Have a good break.
farss wrote on 2/10/2012, 9:21 PM
Musicvid,
yes it's been so close to 10 years now it doesn't matter.

Mate, and I say "mate" in the very Australian context, take care.
You'll be missed but I think I speak for all of us when I say you more than anyone here deserve a break. I'm not certain that everyone here really appreciates just how hard you've worked over the last year or so.

When you're ready please come back but do dop in from time to time even if it's only to say "Hi", just so we all know you're OK.

Bob.

I too find myself not hitting Send more often these days.

More often than not because SCS people may misinterpret either what I say, or the (intended) proactive passion behind it ;-!

Very nice. As a total objective observer, I'd just like to say it's so heartwarming to see this kind of interaction on the Internet. Most places this kind of thing would have escalated into a full out range war. (Rustler's Rhapsody reference).

Anyway, without getting too "touchy-feely" or mushy, I'll just say I love a happy ending and seeing the all too rare "harmonious co-existence" alive and well on the Internet.

I guess I'll go play with my dolly now. ;-)

Musicvid:

I hope to see you back soon. I always learned a lot from your posts and in particular your responses to my questions.

Take care!

Sad to see you go, musicvid. Enjoy your break and please come back!

This forum has a handful of linchpins who selflessly share their huge knowledge to help others. You are one of them and farss is another. Without any of you this is a poorer place.

What a rather silly and immature thread. I hope it gets deleted soon.

hi Rob Frank ( What a rather silly and immature thread. I hope it gets deleted soon )

you will get fired down in flames for that statement
by the cleek,
whom use these forums,
the same bunch of do gooders that think it is okay to offend others, that is why I don't make many comments now I just look and laugh at some of the shi- comments they make,
though I do agree with your statement many won't

Rob, if you don't wish to add to the drama, why add to the drama?

Musicvid.
Indefinite is a long time.
So is six months.
If you come back sooner, no one will think less of you.
It won't be like you caved or something.
Realize most of us appreciate and value your generous contributions to the forum.
Especially dummies like me.
The threat is only silly if you aren't on the receiving end of an insult.
Please consider the source and come back.

Thanks,

Dan
