Strange things are happening to this forum. Has anyone else noticed? The old regular contributor names have almost disappeared and many new ones seem to have come onboard. Any comments?
From Wikipedia: "Ennis was arrested again on March 3, 2005 and held first in Broward County, Florida for a May 31 extradition hearing. By late August he had been extradited to Philadelphia and is currently awaiting trial on charges arising from violation of work release for the earlier DUI incident. The scheduled date for the trial is September 5, 2006."
If you'd like to see a picture of Mr. Ennis, aka theceo and Sollog, go here and scroll down to "Legal problems".
[edit #2]
Here's a news item on the outcome of Mr. Ennis' trial this past May.
I am still here, don't know how many read my responses.
We have anwered the same question over an over and over again.
I like to hear newcomers come up with new and different angles to
approach problems.
The queen is dead, long live the queen. I'm still shooting DV, seems like this forum has turned, primarily, into an HDV forum. Really never found the business need to go to HDV, not yet anyway. I'm shooting still digital, mostly, got a show opening at the Minna Gallery in San Francisco on Nov 17.
My best wishes to all.

At one time, I was an enthusiastic newcomer to Vegas, and visited the forum frequently to learn from the experienced pros and veterans, and to help others where I was able.
On a couple of occasions, I initiated a thread or asked questions -- not "newbie" or oft-repeated RTFM-type questions -- that received no responses. They were not totally off-the-wall or irrelevant, nor is likely that they went beyond the depth of expertise exhibited by many forum regulars, some of whom certainly should have had an opinion.
I went so far as to send a very polite inquiry through the forum email to one of the members who has responded earlier in this very thread, and was not afforded the courtesy of a single word in reply. Yet I saw many responses to mundane newbie questions by this individual in the following days and weeks, so it appeared that there was simply no time to scrawl a sentence in reply to my simple question.
I tried to contribute and be a part of the community, but the abundance of good will and sage advice seemed to be sorely lacking when it became my turn to broach a subject or ask for help. And so I lurk, occasionally shaking my head at the patience of some of these members who eagerly answer the same questions time-after-time, yet can't be bothered to invest a word in me.
I'm not the only one who's experienced this, BTW. I know of another member who's experienced the same thing. He's a very bright guy, uses the search function to see if an issue has been discussed previously, asks his questions clearly and politely, and is routinely ignored.
On the other hand, some members can start an O.T. thread on just about anything and get a flurry of responses. It's discouraging.
I've been around for a few years and post occasionally when I see the chance to help (and someone hasn't beat me to it :) This forum has been invaluable to me for lots of things from Vegas to video/audio production techniques to business advice, the list goes on and on.
Hi cbrillow, nice to meet you. I respond to every challenge!! (when i believe the post would be worth the assistance). I was discouraged to think we had abandoned one of our own, so I went to view your posts, to see if I could bump some of your questions up and offer any help I could, however, you've only started one thread this whole year, and it was in January, friend. :)
I do hope your experience here improves though, I'll be sure to watch for your name on posts. We're a community serving community here.
Yes, it's been a long time since I initiated a post, and it's in part because of the negative experience cited. I never was one to start a lot of threads, spending more time commenting in existing threads prior to going back to being primarily a lurker.
Fortunately, my experiences with Vegas have been such that I haven't had to ask for help often.
i don't think yo've e-mailed me. :) i respond to prety much every e-mail i get, ranging from questions on Quake 1 to Vegas 6. :)
at least I would of said i don't know. :)
I'd say not as many people as we think left, some changed their handles, such as Spot/DSE (to confuse us) & Jay_Gladwell. I like to keep the same handle everywhere I go so i'm easily regonizable. :)
I remember you, and I can think of only one time when I've emailed someone off-list and not received a response, but in my case the individual was travelling, and a second email got answered straight away. Not that it's very relevant to your situation, but perhaps another attempt is in order, with both the direct contact and the posting of a question. Think about it this way, it doesn't make sense that this community of very pro, very high signal to noise ratio users would single your post for a non-reply, except by fluke or mistake. Or, it could be that the post wasn't an "off the top of the head" type answer, and other chatter got bumped to the top, then your post slipped down the page. That happens. When it happens to me I'll bump the post back up and give it a few more days.
I see your post from January was never responded to, nor was it bumped back up by you. Right now I'm at work and in no position to recreate this, but I'll sure give it a go this evening.
I'm the same way you are - I have a website that attracts email from all across the U.S., and I try to answer every one that comes in, whether it's a question or just a general comment. People take the time to write, they deserve the courtesy of a reply, even if you can't provide the answer they were looking for.
There are times when I miss emails due to spam filters and when you send an email, it comes through the forum's email service as not to expose your email to the sender. I get a lot of filtered messages this way ending up in spam.
I would not be so quick to jump to conclusions. It sounds like you have thought way to hard about this instead of just reposting or asking again. Undertood- this is just speculation on my part, but do not allow for bitterness based on assumptions.
Truthfully, I'd have to go back and look at the post from January, because I don't recall what the issue was. However, at the time, I'd guess that it represented more evidence that I was basically wasting my time trying to get an answer here.
I do realize that, occasionally, something comes up that nearly everybody draws a blank on, so I hope I'm not being too harsh and judgmental. It just doesn't seem that the relatively unsophisticated questions that might occur to me would stump everybody.
At any rate, I wasn't trying to resurrect dead issues or hijack the thread, only making a comment on why a couple of us aren't more frequent contributors these days.
Edit: Nor you, either - j razz. It wasn't a hasty conclusion, it was based upon at least 3 separate occasions over a period of time. And please don't misread this as bitterness. It's just one of those things that modified my posting behavior.
Cbrillow,
Friendly advise: If you want to complain about someone's behaviour in the forum, or the lack of response, be specific about it. What did you ask, how did you put it and how long did you have to wait for a decent answer? If you do that, we'll have a discusion about how you were treated and why.
Other than that, look foreward and ask any questions you like. If you don't have a question presently, tell us a little about what you do, and how you employ Vegas to help you do it. We are most interested.

I'm still on V4 waiting for worthy improvements. The title thing is very sad. Are there no thrird party takers? It took 3 or 4 versions to fix the ripple embarrasment, so there is still plenty of time time for a third party titler for Vegas.
I know there are some improvements after V4, but, in my situation, I would have to justify the cost 10 new copies and the cost of re-training many V4 users and so far that justification has not been met. Our Vegas users are public access people and typically do not use Vegas on a daily or even a weekly basis.
Lets face it all this fancy stuff is more or less directed at opening and closing credits. Vegas, once upon a time a leader, has now fallen off the map. Waiting another year or two is really not an option. Either Sony fixes the titles (unlikely) or a third party fixes it with a plugin or people will morph to other software.

This seems to be one of the more prominent, incessant complaints.
Would you, someone, or a few kind folks mind carefully listing the biggest discrepancies with the Vegas titling tool? Something lean, un-editorialized, that programmers and/or developers could easily refer to?
Surprising how often the Vegas titling media is "condemned", with improvements on the summit of some user's requirements. I prefer fairly direct titling and usually find Vegas tools adequate. Recently chienworks put up a pretty fancy example flashy text done within Vegas. I guess people making commercials need flashier titling tools. The title scroll is limited but adequate for end credits, and (as discussed earlier in the year) there are other ways to generate a scroll.
