DJI Osmo Pocket3 vertical mode error Vegas Effect vs Vegas Pro

yoo-changyun wrote on 1/3/2024, 8:22 PM

Google Translate:

"If you import a clip shot in portrait mode into Vegas Effect, the vertical image will be imported as is, but if you import it into Vegas Pro, it will be distorted and unusable. Of course, converting the codec solves the problem, but it is possible in Vegas Effects, but when will it be possible in Vegas Pro?"

I don't have the media, but maybe you can try check:

Try Right click in the media file>Properties>Media Tab

And look for the Pixel Aspect Ratio, what number is it? I assume it should be 1.000 (square)

Is the Rotation number 0 or 90 degrees?

@set : I did some tests.

When draging a portrait clip to the timeline, and using the media properties as timeline properties, you get this:

The media properties are:

The Pixel-Aspect-Ratio is wrong (3.1605). If you change it to 1.000, then the image looks correct.

the Pixel-Aspect-Ratio in the project properties need to be adapted too from 3.1605 to 1.000 too.

Unfortunately VEGAS is automatically using the wrong format.

Does this help?

Harold

It doesn't help. That's not the problem. The aspect ratio is displayed as 1.000, but the clip itself is distorted. I attached a test clip. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ebyMRmP1JH8n5rGBJTVSfK2tXKbZcbeQ/view?usp=sharing

You are misunderstanding. I'm talking about a way to display it vertically on a 16:9 screen without leaving any sides on either side. What I want is Instagram's 9:16 ratio. Applies directly to the Vegas effect. But Vegas Pro... doesn't work. Is there a way to do it all at once without going through it twice? Or is it a bug I originally applied for? Anyway, thank you all for your interest.

There are 2 aspect ratios.

One is Project Pixel Aspect Ratio, which is already 1.000 by default. You reach via File>Properties.

and another is the Source Media Pixel Aspect Ratio, which shown distorted here, because the media is currently detected wrong by VEGAS Pro 21, so you need to change this via right click on the media>Properties, change from 3.1605 to 1.000.

Render result:

Hope this helps the confusion.

Vegas 20 got it right. It's a Vegas 21 bug.

I can confirm @john_dennis's finding.

VP21 uses new decoder for this HEVC media, that resulted wrong aspect ratio.

I have forwarded this issue to development team. In the meantime, the workaround fix is explained above.
