DPX file loading problem

James Moore wrote on 1/3/2018, 3:07 PM

Hi,

I have some 16 bit DPX sequences I am trying to load into Vegas (build 261) and I am having problems.

If I go to import media, it sees the files, it allows 1 to load but the sequence portion of the loader is greyed out. The single file that gets loaded won't work on the timeline.

These files load in After Effects and Resolve fine.

Any suggestions?

Could you share 2 or 3 files of that DPX image sequence?

sure. how? I tried an upload and it said the file format wasn't supported.

You would need to use a hosting platform like Dropbox and link to the files.

On my system neither VP13, VP14 nor VP15 can read these DPX files, but unfortunately none of my grafic programs either. Sorry, seems like I can't help here. All I could suggest is trying to convert these files to something like EXR.

James, if you don't mind, please leave the files online for now so we can link the developers to them.

Will do. The link will expire in a couple of weeks.

Did anyone ever get this .dpx sequence to load in Vegas? I still cannot load a .dpx sequence in Vegas 14. It loads fine in Resolve.

Don't know about that sequence, but I can get a DPX sequence to load into Vegas. Where did yours originate?

Prairiedogpics, did you try loading it as a sequence not as a single file?

prairiedogpics wrote on 8/4/2018, 11:04 AM

@Former user Yes, I tried to load them as a sequence. I can see the files in the Explorer pane (only when "View All Files" is selected), but when I try File>Import>Media, and browse to that folder, the files are not visible at all and and the "Open Sequence" box is greyed out. See attached screenshot.

@Kinvermark Please download and try these files yourself. Here is a link to a small sample sequence of these files (Gamma Ray Digital scanned my Super 8 film to a 10-bit DPX sequence in Super 2K):

Here is the MediaInfo on one of these files:

I don't know if it is relevent, but they loaded into Version 12 with no problem.

Also, I just downloaded a trial version of Premiere CC and the sequence loads easily in that. So, Resolve and Premiere work fine with these exact same files, but Vegas 10/13/14 do not, even though .DPX is supposedly supported. Lastly, note that when you go to File>Import>Media, .dpx is NOT one of the available files types:

LOL. I don't have that version, and that figures!

Try to go to ALL instead of ALL MEDIA PROJECTS (or whatever, it is at the top of the dropdown.

@Former user OMG. Bless you! When I go to All, I can see and load the sequence! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, glad it worked out. I appreciate the blessing, can use all we can get. 😇

Guess I am late to the party :)

But, yes, I can open sequence in Vegas 14 bld 270 too.
