Kool! Just old repeats or did they start up the series again?

I used to watch that show all the time on WTTW (local public TV in Chicago) about 20 years ago or more when they had it on late on Sunday nights. If new, who's playing Dr. Who and and I hope they bring back K-9 the wonder dog.

... and April 29 in theaters here we get to see "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". See especially the trailer at the film's web site.

It's too bad though when you already know the Meaning of Life, The Universe and Everything :O)

(For those who haven't read the books: the above is disclosed in the book, the magnificent answer used to be on a lot of car bumpers.)

Even better than reading the book is hearing the original BBC radio theatre episodes on tape or CD, they are still in print, available at Amazon.com.

There will also be a new radio version starting September 21 on BBC Radio 4, hope they have this on the web.

I didn't care as much for the 1981 TV series, even though it won much praise for its "state-of-the-art computer graphics" (which were actually hand drawn on acetate, with pieces cut out of lighting gels to provide the colors :O). They couldn't afford a graphics-capable computer...

Audio and video clips are available here.

Part of what made Dr. Who so enjoyable were the thoroughly cheesy effects, as if a bunch of 14-year-old kids were trying to cobble something together. I kept expecting to see the mic drop into the shot, etc.

I liked the Dr. Who with the curly hair and the long scarf; forget his name. I also (embarrisingly enough) had the hots for one of the later "Girl Fridays," the (supposedly) American chick who I believe was actually played by a Brit. I think her name in the show was Perry. I wouldn't mind being stuck in the TARDIS with her for a couple of trips around the sun.

Wasn't the EX-TER-MINATE guy named Davros? I haven't seen a dude get that wound up since Moe Howard got stabbed in the ass by one of the other Stooges. My martial arts buddies love watching Moe work himself up into a lather because you know there's about to be a stellar, extraordinarily creative ass-whipping. Forget "Monkey Style" kung fu, there's nothing superior to a "Moe" stylist.

Davros couldn't pull this off too well because he was stuck in a wheelchair, but he made up for it by emoting all over the screen when he was annoyed.

Just watched it ! In a word SUPERB ...
Grazie wrote on 3/26/2005, 12:48 PM
WOW! Mark!

Now THAT was something else . .. Brilliant! . .. And with my beautiful London as the back drop.

Sorry to disillusion the gainsayers , , but No cheesy effects this time! . . . Just yer plain ole' homicidal shop dummies strangling shoppers ( very funny! ) and a truly repulsive distant cousin of Jaba the Hutt "larging-it" opposite the Houses of Parliament!

. . that's me now for every Saturday night, 7:00pm . .. sorted! Blinder! Auntie ( the BBC ) does it again . .

and why in the world would a thread like this not get locked out, while others do because of the tone they develop? It's not even labeled "OT", for common courtesy. I don't see how it relates to Vegas or even video in general, besides the fact that it is a discussion about a video. Grazie, you created a coffee house forum didn't you?, go use it for this type of banter. Somehow I get the feeling you have no friends outside of this forum and are starving for general conversation. This is not the place for that. Go join a yahoo chat room and I'ld appreciate it if you could keep away from posting messages, just for the sake of noise.

I think Grazie probably just forgot to mention that the new BBC1 Dr Who uses ACID loops from the radiophonic workshop and is edited with Veags.
Grazie wrote on 3/26/2005, 2:21 PM
My apologies to R. He is quite correct I really should have labelled it as OT. Me Bad!

Best regards,

Grazie

At least we found out what the London eye is really about !
Grazie wrote on 3/26/2005, 2:35 PM
True! The London Eye - sounds quite 1984 and Big Brother-ish now . . . spooky!

Oh, just for the record, I didn't create the chat room. Some other guy did that. Great place to chill out too.

Grazie

The FX Were fantastic.. The Acting was Brilliant.. Billie Piper was Beautiful.. The Editing was Slick.. Great Music.. Amazing Story.. Did I mention the FX..

Look out World ! I feel for anyone without a Sofa ...

Yes Mark! IMHO it's a high benchmark for creative video production. Hey, and the script was just too good!

Mark? Did you watch the chap talking about his music/composition creation for the series? That for me was an eyeopenner. He was saying how he wasn't apologetic for his approach - I like that - pure creativity.

The website I posted has much to offer "others" here abouts on how the BBC gets to make such award winning projects - I'm sure Dr Who will win something for this series . .I hope so!

Television, video and film are among the interests of many people who work or play with television, video and film. It is an established practise in this forum to allow some references to and opinions about some great or small events on the media scene in gereral. Vegas people are people (Grazie possibly more so than most). Some of us even put flowers on our tables, even though we don't know that it serves a purpose.
Anyway, on this great and joyful day I'd fogive both the OT thread and the sour comment it povoked. Happy Easter, everyone!

Ummmm, so what you're saying is that Grazie > 1.0 people? Hmmm. I'm trying to imagine the ramifications of that! ;)

Thank you for posting Grazie,I Love Doctor Who! I 'm so jealous that we cant get the new series here across the Pond. I looked thru the listings for the BBC channel we get on cable but soo far no signs : (.
I mentioned to BB back in another post, when I used to live in Chicago, I would watch the Doctor every sunday night. One night while watching the screen went snowy for a moment, the a man in a Max Headroom Mask(old US TV show) appeared on and mooned the camera! Turns out someone had Pirated the TV stations signal and broadcasted for about 3 mins. ! Needless to say I had to rub my eyes to be sure I was seeing what I was!
It was during an episode with the Cybermen, so I could tell pretty quick that it wasnt a character in the episode ; )

Tom Baker was of course my favorite, and when I was younger my mom knit me a scarf like his that was 8ft long.

Wish there was a way we could watch the new ones over here.
I did watch the stuff on the website, looks awsome!
