DVD subtitle track(s)... a quick guesstimate on file size?

Squeezed my 1 hour 55 min project onto a DVD5 and it's looks good (CCE 2-pass VBR, bitrate 1000/4800/8000). The size of the folder is 4.24Gb (4,556,204,032 bytes). So there's not much room left. What chance do you think I'd have of squeezing subtitle tracks on there too, or will I need to drop my bitrate to make more room?

thanks

Top-of-the-head guess? You have plenty of room.

Subtitles are tiny files--Ralph LaBarge says the typical subtitle is about 5Kbits (less than 1KB).

I know the conventional wisdom is to leave a few percent of empty space on the DVD-5, but I have personally (accidentally) created disks that bump up right at the limit (99.9% full) and have never had a failure or playability issue using Ritek G04 blanks and a Pioneer burner. This technology is stable!

I've run into a few customers now who's players don't like reading burned G04 media to the edge. Not common, but they are out there.

i dont know where he got that "5Kbits (less than 1KB)." figure -- because that is wrong .. maybe per 4 color+alpha graphic subtitle.

Its pretty easy to see how big subtitles take up on a disk .... anywhere from 1 - 6 meg ussually , may be more or less depending how long the project is ..

Just reporting back that actually the subtitle tracks were tiny. I added 2 of them and DVDA is still telling me the DVD is 98% full.
