DVDA 4.5 hangs on burn...

Now this is bloody annoying..

create a disc with DVDA4.5
All is wel until we get to the burn...

once it starts, the app jsut hangs and locks up the burner.
Have to cntl alt delete to shut the program and remove disc
Wotn cancel despite efforts.

Open gnerated Architect DVD directory, all files adn menus are ok
OPen all of these in DVDA 3 and burn as a premade Project (ie burn only function using existing files)

Burns go well without a hitch.

So im left with using 4.5 to author and create due to the fact it doesnt kill 16:9, but all i can do from there is burn with DVDA3 (DVDA 4 is just broken for me.. on ANY machine i use.. )

thoughts? experiences?

I ALWAYS prepare first and burn using Nero.
With Nero I can do a verification pass.
DVDA does seem to catch some burn errors but Nero seems better at this than DVDA. Makes sense really, DVD authoring software for authoring, burning software for burning. And Nero LE came for free with my burner so why not use it.

Is the drive for the temp files set to your system drive? Does it have enough room on it. I had some lock ups today because my C drive is low on space.

This won't help you, but works fine for me.

temp drive is almost always empty (its my scratch/prelim drive)
My biggest concern is when DVD5 decides to support DB formats, that this issue will continue..

Bob, im using Nero 8 Ultra, so you think i should just throw in the Vob and IFO files etc into a DVD movie based template?

Thans for the feedback Serena. Im sure most people dont have an issue with DVD4.5 but my efforts in determining the problem have been futile, so ive needed to work out otehr alternatives.

That's the way I've been doing it for a long time. I started doing that after a master was rushed onto a plane to Vietnam and the friggin media was defective with a lump of crud in it. DVDA reported a successful burn. Nero's verification would have picked it up.

I'll second Bob's method. I also always prepared the DVD folders in my DVDA (or my other DVD authoring software) and then burnt with Nero.

I've been using Nero for years, but I had some issues with it a while back and discovered the freeware IMGBURN software. It works exceptionally well and integrates with DVDInfo Pro to test disc burns. It's not quite as simple to use as Nero, but it's much more powerful. I ended up uninstalling Nero and haven't looked back.

John Cline, you made my day. No, you made my week!

I've been having problems with Nero 6.6.1.15 on my recent Dell Precision laptop which has a TSSTcorp TS-L632H burner. DVD videos burnt on Verbatim 8x +R (MCC 003) were skipping on my set-top players and I put it down to a faulty burner and have been having zero response from Dell Thailand in getting it replaced. This is hugely important for me as I sell DVDs burnt while I travel.

When I read your post I thought I would try ImgBurn and lo and behold the first 3 burns all play fine. I like all the options and the various prompts it gives you if you do something unexpected when creating a DVD Video for example. I left it set on auto burn speed and notice that it's writing at 5.5x even though the burner and media are supposed to be 8x. But maybe that's what is required for a reliable burn.

So it looks like my version of Nero (which admittedly is getting long in the tooth now) does not play nicely with this particular burner.

I'll give ImgBurn a try on my desktops as well.

Thank you very much John. By the way would you say DVDINFOPro is worth buying? I use Nero CD-DVD Speed occasionally to scan discs.

I too use DVDA to create the VIDEO_TS folder and files, and then burn with Nero.

Not sure what this means? I never had a problem with 16:9 in any iteration of DVDA.

I've noticed some issues with DVDA 4/4.5 pertaining to 5.1 surround files, but for burning, I just completed a major project with it (for mass replication) and all was fine.
