Easy way for background music, voice/talk louder

eikira wrote on 4/8/2019, 12:33 PM

Windows 10, Build 1809
Vegas Pro, Build 361

Because audio is my weakness i wanted to ask, if there is an easy way to put in background music and everytime on a different track there is talking the music gets automatically softer?

Right now i am just working with LoudnessCurve (is it called like that in VP english)(Shift+V) and setting points.

Research sidechain compression, and see if you can find a sidechain compressor vst plugin to use in vegas.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

Vegasaur can do a similar thing, if I understand you right.

I already showed it here:

Does this help for you?

Yes @klt you understood me exactly right. I had no idea Vegasaur had this built in. I will try that out right now. Thanks a lot.

You're welcome. You just need to carefully tweak the settings.

😉

Unfortunately, most all conventional side-chaining plug-ins will not work in Vegas. The only side-chain comp I can recall off-hand that works with Vegas Pro is from 'db Audioware'. It worked decent but I prefer to 'draw' a manual volume envelope... though it takes much more time. FWIW, I been asking for side-chaining options since the first Sonic Foundry release of Vegas, which was an audio-only DAW.

@klt yeah... tweaking is here the magic word. easier said than done. have to figure out how that thing really works.

+1 Vegasaur Voice Over. It gives you lots of precise control over the volume envelope creation. Huge time-saver.

Yes i tried so far. But cant make it happen so far that its usable. Need to find this week a guide which explains each option and what it exactly does. So far it sometimes just does the opposite and lowers the volume in parts were there is no word at all.

@eikira Start with the settings you see on my video.

For some help:

Various Vegas tools can help to detect Signal value, eg. track's output meter, loudness meters or loudness logs

@klt ok, its not only about settings i found out.

the problem is, if you have many cut first of all the voice over tool in vegasaur takes so much time and second, it has clearly a hard time to figure stuff out and does not the best job so.

however, i think i found the solution. if one has many cuts in the voice over track, because its connected to a video and you edited a lot of it, first just export it as an wave audio and import it back, mute every other track now and apply the vegasaur voice over and it should be totally fine and way way quicker.
