Edit Keyframes Curves/Lanes to accelerate a Pan/Crop slide

PayasoPrince wrote on 9/10/2021, 8:57 PM

Hello all, 😃

I have a simple image track that I have sliding across the screen using the Pan/Crop Event.
I tried inserting a Velocity Envelope and added some points with different velocity %'s. However, the speed doesn't seem to be changing whatsoever.

So, my question is, are you able to use velocity envelopes on images that move through pan/crop key frames?

Any insight/assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Update: I've changed the thread title to be a little more specific to what I'm looking for.

Velocity envelopes are used to adjust frame rates not the location of the media in the frame. I suggest using key frames in the pan and crop window to change speed of pan and zoom.

Here's one option. Once you're happy with your keyframed still image event(s), render the event(s) to a new track using a decent intermediate such as ProRes. Then apply the velocity envelope to the rendered intermediates.

Ack, I've been at it for hours. I believe what I am looking for is animating Keyframes with Curves/Lanes?
I just can't seem to find where to edit curves/lanes :/

I have created a slide effect with the Pan/Crop tool.
Under View > Envelopes > Track Key Frames is checked off, however I cannot see any of the key frames that I added with the Pan/Crop tool on my tracks timeline.

I've searched all over for the "Expand/Collapse Track Keyframes button" that I heard about through Google, but cannot find it anywhere.

I believe that the image below is exactly what I'm looking for? But I cannot seem to figure out how to get to this point:
https://videotutorial.ro/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Sony-vegas-Pro-11-animatii-cu-ajutorul-keyframe-urilor.jpg

Ultimately, I have a start point and an end point that I've created using the Pan/Crop tool. But I cannot figure out how to access the curves/lanes editing feature to make my slide accelerate and then deaccelerate.

I hope I did an adequate job explaining where I'm at. The hardest part about learning Vegas Pro is learning how to learn, if that makes sense.

@PayasoPrince As far as I know, the Curves/Lanes option isn't available with Pan/Crop. You need to use the keyframe interpolation settings for each keyframe to shape the path from one keyframe to another.

@PayasoPrince, It does seem that you may be using the wrong tools, but it depends upon exactly what you're trying to do. If you have a video/image and you want it to actually change location (e.g. an inset picture which slides across the screen), then @lan-mLMC has the right answer. Use the PIP FX instead of Pan/Crop. To change the velocity of the animation between one position and the next, then @Jack S has you on the right track: don't use Velocity envelopes (those are for creating slow/fast motion). Instead, right-click the keyframe and choose the velocity shape you want from the context menu.

Vegasaur is a great tool which I fully endorse, but for what it sounds like you're trying to do, you probably don't need it.

@gary-rebholz Now Pan/crop ( without keyframe curve ) can almost be replaced by PIP or some third-party plugins ( like Sapphire S_BlurMoCurve ) with keyframe curve. It is a good news. We can use PIP and S_BlurMoCurve to do all kinds of custom accelerated or slowed motion.

But the native 3D parent track motion/3D camera ( all tracks with 3D source alpha ) still doesn't have an alternative FX/Plugin to do custom accelerated or slowed motion. I think it is time to bring keyframe curve to 3D parent track motion/3D camera ( all tracks with 3D source alpha ).
