If it's like Flash 8 there should be a wizard to walk you through it. The player has to be coded to play that one movie. It's pretty easy but I don't recall any specifics at the moment.

You definitely don't need to upload that FLA file.

In Flash 8 the simplest approach in an empty FLA file is "File/Import/Import Video" and then follow the instructions.

After that, the player window is a component and can be altered with the Component Inspector. This is the actual playback area I'm talking about, not the controls.

The most helpful information I have found is from http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Embedding_Flashhttp://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Embedding_Flash[/link] as well as other information and Flash players on his site.

Good point. I've never tried to get a web server to serve up a swf file without an html page. Not sure you can do that.

Jrazz I'm a little out of the groove with this stuff and I forget details quickly but you might want to take a look at the source code of my home page http://www.bubblevision.com. That movie was made in Flash and I think the code was generated by Dreamweaver. It might give you some clues. I have an external AC_RunActiveContent.js script that is referred to in the HTML.

Or you could make life a little simpler and generate a player in the Brightcove console and let them host the file, which is what I've done on http://www.bubblevision.com/movie-gallery.htm. You can even encode your own file and just use them to host the file and generate the player. Plus it will get exposure on brightcove.com if you want.

Guys, I appreciate all the help. It amazes me that I can solicit a response here in less than a few hours and there is still no response over on the adobe forum. I will give the bubblevision a go and see where I can get with that. I utilized the "wizard" to encode the flv file, but after the encode I could not figure out how to attach the swf to the flv.

Thanks again,

Just ask if you have any questions about how my directory structure is laid out or if you want a copy of any of the relevant files to look at. To make sure I get it, in case I forget this thread, you can get my email address on www.nickhope.net

I'm with Nick on utilizing Brightcove - they utilize their publishpod app that encodes to 4 different quality settings. I"m using it now for my video work online and find it superior to other alternatives - I just don't have the time (or the desire) to learn yet another app - especially one as convoluted and unintuitive as Flash.
