EVENT PAN/CROP WINDOW BUG-A-BOO

Bob-Harper wrote on 10/12/2024, 1:57 PM

Hi-

Just downloaded 22 pro and everything loaded just fine and it found my Boris plugs and audio plugs no problemo.

This actually is a little bug-a-boo that's been around before 22 and maybe there's a way to correct it?

Whenever I'm testing various effects, I'll try one and then remove it but whenever I do the EVENT PAN/CROP window pops up. It's not a big issue but more of a pain to keep closing it and closing it and closing it.

Any way to defeat that auto pop-up?

Hopefully someone knows an easy fix thereof.

If not, I'll just have to live with it...

Thanks, Bob

Don't stop me if I go off semantisizing...

When you're testing the fX, the Video Event fX Window is opened. When your remove the fX, the Video Event fX window is resized to the size of Event Pan/Crop which is the default Video Event fX. If you add another fX for testing the window will resize to the active fX. There is no need to close the "Pan/Crop" window each time you want to test a different fX.

thx john...will look into it...I had been dropping fx onto the clip

@Bob-Harper You can drop the effect not only on the clip on the timeline, but also on the pan and crop window that has been left open. Double-clicking the fx also adds it to the selected clip.

It's just how VEGAS works. Pan/crop is like the default Fx but can usefully be positioned between or after other Fx.

Thanks for the quick replies gents and informed responses. Case solved.

Liking what I see on 22 having come from 19. Nice to see Vegas continuing to improve. I just wish more 3rd party vendors would include Vegas in their plugs and so forth.

BTW, the installation was smooth and hassle free. Nice work Vegas developers... '-)

@Bob-Harper This Vegas behavior you described is exactly one of the little annoyances that's driving me nuts for as long as I have used Vegas in the past and present. It is not so trivial as presented, as it requires an extra click to get rid off the pan crop if you decide the clip needs no effects at all. This extra click adds to RSI, wears out your mouse, and slows your editing. I have added this inconvenience many times before to "the Wishlist" of this forum, hoping the developers would improve on this, but my hopes on this one are very dim for sure.

Bitman...so glad someone understood and shares the annoyance. I think I didn't explain it properly. Yes, it's that extra click necessary to constantly close the window that tends to get-to-you after awhile when you have a LOT of different effects being used and pre-tested accordingly. Well, at least you tried via the wish list. Oh well, it is what it is...

@Bob-Harper which particular 3rd party vendors would like to see support Vegas Pro?

Which "auto popup" are you referring to? Usually there is a box you can check mark to not have something appear.

I guess I described it inaccurately as being a "pop-up." It's just the usual PAN/CROP window that's always there after say deleting an effect and other times. Just a distraction and constant mouse clicking to close it. As "bitman" said above, he's put the issue on the wish-list many times...to no avail.

Reyfox wrote on 10/16/2024, 9:40 AM

Ahh...ok, understood. For me, I've never really given it a thought when the Pan/Crop window would remain open when deleting and effect.

I guess it is a matter of the workflow that we each have and are used to.

@Bob-Harper It can be annoying, yes. I docked the video effects window to the up-left area so at least I know where it is going to appear, it does not interfere with the timeline or preview and I don't have to close it, I just select a different tab if needed.

Bob-Harper wrote on 10/16/2024, 9:51 AM

LdM...maybe I'll try that. At the present the window is in the monitor above. If I move it down at least it's less of a reach to CLOSE the crazy thing. '-)

Overall, I'm really liking 22 and see a lot of creative potential with the AI elements. Have been testing and creative juices flowing! I am kind of dismayed there hasn't been improvement with text handling etc. Seems kind of outdated. I do love how Vegas Effects handles text simply and had the ability to move it right on the preview window....without of course....opening the PAN/CROP window. :)

RogerS wrote on 10/16/2024, 9:55 AM

The developers have stated that improving titling in VEGAS is important but behind remaking the video engine in terms of priority (understandably so I think).

Bob-Harper wrote on 10/16/2024, 9:57 AM

I figured as much and yes, what they're doing now will open a number of improvement doors down the road. Patient, I am.

LdM_Edit wrote on 10/16/2024, 10:04 AM

Well, I think you can move text directly in the preview window in VEGAS Pro too. I've used that to position subtitles if I remember correctly. But it would be nice to see some updates to "Titles and text", yes. I'm also patiently waiting.
