Explorer tab: audio icon shown instead of Thumbnail in V20 build 403

Viewing your source video thumbnail (with option "thumbnails") in the explorer tab seems broken in Vegas 20 build 403.

Case 1

Sometimes the thumbnail real picture is only created after a refresh,

Case 2

Some clips can never seem to generate their thumbnail (only a default audio icon is displayed).

Note: I do not see this regression behavior (using the same clips and PC) in the latest build 651 for Vegas 19 (Vegas 19 is OK)

Note: importing the media into the project media tab show the thumbnail icon correctly

Here is a link to a video file which has a thumbnail picture in Vegas 19, but not in Vegas 20 build 403.

As far as I can remember this was OK in in prior builds of Vegas 20.

The video file icon in the explorer tab is shown as audio icon, not having a proper thumbnail picture.

Note: make sure you have with option "thumbnails" set in the explorer view!

Maybe that is a question of the type of footage. I have no ProRes footage here. But with 8bit H.264 GH4 footage I do not see the issue. Also not with FS7 footage or EVA1 footage.

@bitman Hi, I had a look at my ProRes Quicktime, they show no prob in v19 & V20 Windows 10, so i added yours to one of the folders, it too shows 🤷‍♂️

Also no problem on my computer listed below in sig. I also enabled the Hover Scrub and was able to scrub the thumbnail and see the animation.

@Reyfox Hi, Hover Scrub is in Project media, did you turn it on in Explorer?

@Former user, sorry, I misread everything. Comes with age and having one brain cell trying to do everything.

In the Explorer, I can not use (to me) the dreaded Scrub, but the thumbnail does show up as it does in your screenshot.

I used to be able to multitask much better. Now, it seems to be co-tasking... having to switch tasks instead of doing everything at the same time.

Looking at your screenshot, it is NOK, you also do not have a proper thumbnail (still picture of video), just an default icon...

@bitman Eh?, the highlighted blue image is yours with an image? The other is Windows explorer folder that never shows an image with this type of file.

@bitman Yeah that's what mine shows, here it is again a bit closer, I've deleted one file since then so it look as a bit different but there is def a dark image of your Particle within that thumbnail,

@Former user I overlooked your highlighted blue, indeed you do not seem to have my issue. Strange, very reproducible at my side. And what worries me, the same files view different on my PC via the Vegas explorer from V19 vs V20...

@bitman hmm yeah, earlier on before my 1st post I turned a few things off in Vegas, like Quicktime in Preferences to see if I could make it turn into an icon & not a thumbnail image but couldn't.. had to go out tho so prob didn't try everything,

@bitman When you say 'type', do you mean ProRes Quicktime or those Particulas files? Do other ProRes show the thumbnail correctly?

@Former user I downloaded your Buff sword video file: same issue as the particulas files at my PC, the thumbnail is just a default audio icon, not a still picture icon.

I also do not seem to be able to play these type of files in windows itself (they play OK on Vegas timeline), seems l am missing a windows codec perhaps that you may have? Are you able to play this in windows?

@bitman Hmm weird..

No Windows doesn't like these files.

VLC Player isn't happy with them either, they play but are a bit jumpy, so I use MPC Player which is smooth.👍

In the Vegas Explore, I do not see the Buff Sword, but the file is clearly in the folder I downloaded it to. I can drag it from that folder to the Vegas timeline without issue.

@Reyfox It doesn't show at all in your Vegas Explorer? you're on Windows 11 as well (I'm on W10), don't know if that makes any difference as it works fine in @bitman's VP19 🤷‍♂️
