Stability (another Pinnacle refugee).

If stability doesn't count as a feature - the ability to improve still images right on the timeline rather than going back to a still image editor.

GUI- Usability of the interface. I ditched Premiere Pro as I got fed up guessing where they hide their functions.

Vegas has an extremely logical interface.

I can't resist this post - Stability! Any guesses on my previous NLE?

1: Stability (another Pinnacle victim here)

2: Vegas' ability to handle almost any type of media

3: Realtime preview without special hardware

Being able to edit at my at office, home, laptop & at my contractor’s editors system locations.

It easy to find a PC that will do the job –
in the past I needed a Mac & some chunks of hardware.

Handling of HDV and or 24p conversion.
No scratch that..... This forum and the suuport network from the everyday amatuers to the seasoned pros that make this one of the best editing platforms around.

Background rendering and pre-rendering, hands down. (opps, not yet. Maybe in V7?).

Definitely the interface! Being able to do so much on the timeline itself -- even stuff as simple as auto-crossfades.

LyricsGirl, behind you all the way! Respect for the Windows interface is the reason I originally opted for Vegas. Stability's kept me here.

Tricky question! Probably it would be easier to nominate a feature I could manage without. Although the list is getting shorter as my competence with Vegas increases.
Also difficult because my experience with other NLEs is limited to helping people with problems where, of course, I'm constantly mumbling "how do you work with this?"
My top requirement of any software is stablility and freedom from bugs, with soft landing for user errors and ease of learning. Vegas satisfies these essentials. Capability for real-time display of all post-production effects - yes. Extensive flexibility of workflow. Accommodates a large range of 3rd party tools. Yes, colour curves and colour correction would be a huge loss; essential for squeezing the real world into 8 bits.
I guess if you took away HDV facilities I'd have to look elsewhere, but Gearshift makes even that unnecessary.

THIS FORUM - no doubt about it.

What sold me on it was the ability for keyframe effects, large amount of import filters and the compositing tools. I too am a pinnacle refugee so it is the stability that keeps me here. ;-)

I agree with Vic, this is a great forum!

I think...

Nested Projects

have opened up a whole new level of options to be creative, without the redundancy.

Second in line would be Hi Def, export/import sequential images, color correction, Wax extensions, scripting, this forum...not necessarily in that order.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop there.

Just the overall simplicity. Overlap 2 video files, boom, an instant dissolve. Stuff like that.
dibbkd wrote on 3/7/2006, 7:11 PM
As many others, STABILITY.

If I hadn't come from Pinnacle, maybe I'd say multiple tracks that are easy to use.

But yeah, the instability of Pinnacle is why I'm here, so I think I'd have to say stability is the feature that brought me here and that I love the most.
