Feature I would find useful:Apply same effects as previous clip

Len Kaufman wrote on 2/24/2017, 1:21 PM

This is something that I use in Lightroom a lot. If I could apply the same effects to a clip as to the previous clip I worked on, if would be most helpful. Yes, you can set up a "filter package," which I frequently use to make a "base" adjustment to most everything that comes out of my camera. But there are many occasions when you just want to apply the same group of filters at the same settings as one you just did to only a few additional clips. For example, if you have a series of related clips with same subject/lighting.

Would anyone else find this useful? Or does this already exist?

You can do this by Copy (Strg+C) and Paste Event Attributes (Event's right-click option).

Sure enough. Thank you, Marco. I was looking for something like that in the dialogue box for the plug-ins, and didn't think to look in the event group.

I prefer the option to apply effects to a track instead of applying effects to each event. I just put the events, which should have these effects, than on that specific track.

That’s a good way to do it.

But sometimes when doing transitions, such as dissolves, you can't have them on separate tracks. A fade up on a track looks different than a dissolve on the same track. I prefer to apply the effx, if it can be, in the media pool.

Effects can be applied directly in media pool, on events in the timeline, on tracks and to the whole project. Each option has advantages and disadvantages.

Yes, dissolves between events on separate tracks don't look very good in comparison to a dissolve between 2 events on the same track.  This is where a fade in/out is applied to the 2 events on both tracks.  However, I've found that if you apply the fade in/out to the event on the top track only (no fade in/out at all on the event on the lower track), the resulting dissolve looks the same (to me anyway) as is achieved with a same track dissolve.

When using a transition effect other than a fade, sometimes the effect works fine when applied to events on separate tracks (e.g. BCC swish pan), but there are lots of others that really need to be applied to events on the same track.

I happen to use Vegasaur, but I assume other utilities can do it:  Past event attributes allows more fine grained selection of what you want pasted ala Lightroom.

I think Vegas Extension like Blacktools by Matt Carlson is useful for this kind of work. It was on the COW forum.

you can copy the Event FX to Memory bank of A,B,C,D... and then paste it to Event you have selected

Thanks. It's here: https://f1.creativecow.net/8089/8089

First time I've heard of a plugin that claims to be able to append FX to an existing FX chain rather than replace them (if I understand the "How To.txt" in the zip file correctly).

I followed the How to.txt on installation, copy it to C:\users\(username)\My Documents\Vegas Application Extensions - but seems only run in VP13...

Where to install for VP14 ?

I haven't installed it. Try here: C:\ProgramData\VEGAS Pro\Application Extensions\

NickHope wrote on 2/25/2017, 1:37 AM

It may well need a hack to run in VP14 because of namespace and .NET Framework issues.

Tried following ShowRecDat similar installation, but Blacktools still didn't show up... (While ShowRecDat shows up)... already tried unblock it...

Yes Nick, very useful if you want to copy the event fx chain and PASTE it to another Event, either to replace them or add them to Event FX chain. something like a clipboard manager

When you first press the Memory Bank Letter, it will turn Red,

it will turn green if you select the event and press COPY (now the Event FX is copied to memory)

Here's the color equivalent when you PASTE:

Green=PASTE is REPLACE the existing Event FX

Blue= PASTE is ADD to the existing Event FX
