What options does your Samsung give you?

Samsung provides picture images in *.jpg format and these transfer satisfactorily.

Video clips are captured in *.mp4 format and this is not accepted by Movie Studio.  I have converted these to *.mts format, similar to those I use in the Sony applications but this also is not accepted.  When these are loaded into Movie Studio the system crashes.

Give us the media info on both the mp4 and mts files as there's something strange. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

Also you could try converting them with Handbrake into mp4 as Handbrake files shouldn't be a problem. This would also solve the problem that your Samsung files are probably variable framerate and in Handbrake you can convert to fixed framerate which video editors like VMS prefer.

Which Movie Studio program are you using?
It is possible that you made a HEVC video with that smartphone.
Those files only opens in VMS 15 and 16.
