Film clips looking distorted in Vegas - can I recover them?

Hi all,

I'm using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD 11.0 (Build 75) to edit together gameplay videos.  Each of these videos is made up of several clips, caught with a 3D game capture program.

My most recent batch of clips look fine when I view them in VLC media player.  However, when I import them into Vegas, they appear black and white and distorted, similar to the effect from a worn-out VHS tape.  I did a bit of checking, and it seems that the video game capture program had been set to record the game at full screen, instead of 1280 x 720.  As such, these defective clips have a resolution of 1366 x 768.  (This one of the only true 16:9 aspect ratio resolutions the game in question can do.)

I did a bit of googling on this, and it seems that Vegas has problems with clips at this particular resolution.  With this in mind, I tried using Movavi Video Converter to change the clips to 1280 x 720 resolution.  However, the resulting clips were incredibly choppy and the sound was gone.

I was wondering, is there any way I can recover these clips at all?

Take a look at this post, in particular section 10. It was written for Vegas Pro but most or all of it applies to Movie Studio. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-why-won-t-vegas-open-my-file-correctly-codecs-converters-etc--104572/

No reason why you can't work with 1366 x 768 on your timeline as long as the format and settings are correct, then render to 1280 x 720 when you've finished editing.

Nick,

Thank-you for your reply.  However, I can't acutally say if that worked.  It turns out that I'd actually deleted the video clips a few weeks ago, when the problem became apparent.

Looks like I'll just have to re-film them :-(.
