Forum becoming adversarial

My experience with this forum.

I have been a member of this forum since 2002 (12 years).
Then I was 19, now I am 31. I have pretty much grown up with this forum.

This forum is my all time favorite forum and always has been.

It is targeted, personal and a great place to learn Vegas and everything related to it.

This forum is like a room of A/V experts (who are wiser than you) where you walk into.
Like a little kid you can ask any A/V related question and you get fast, personal and very useful feedback.

Some long time members including farss (Bob), musicvid, OldSmoke and many others I consider to be very knowledged and give great feedback.

It is clear that even SCS is happy with the forum members here who are giving the most feedback.
Statements like "Give us more detail then some members here might help you.." is a term SCS often use.

Yes there are some light hearted jokes in between the serious posts.
I find nothing wrong with that. Having fun is a part of life (thank God), and it is great for team building.

There always will be disappointed people, complaints, bashing and name calling.
This has happened many times in the past, especially by those who are unhappy with Vegas.
(I am not pointing to anyone, I even don't remember their names because I ignore those posts, unless they are asking for help)

Like Rob Franks said: " I'm sure you are in a few eyes, and not in others, so who cares? It's what you think that counts."

That which you pay attention to grows.
Choose the posts that is helpful to you, ignore that which isn't.

John Cline defined my role in one of his recent posts and I've very much warmed up to it since then:

"http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=900887...grandpa in the stands with a consumer camcorder...[/link]"

The one detail where the description falls short is that I don't even use a camcorder. I shoot video with a point-and-shoot.

I’ve been posing on this, my favourite forum, for some 12 years or more, and have made a living posing as a video producer for 20 years. I’ve received heaps of help here and occasionally helped others, whenever I felt competent to do so. I didn’t think to ask if they too were posers.

Many of my humble productions over the years have helped people look after and communicate with people with physical or sensory disabilities, and they have been well received and appreciated. Occasionally when one of my productions has been launched by a famous person, such as our current Foreign Minister, I have of course posed for photos with them.

My interests include watching ships disappearing over the horizon.

Peter Wright,
Your inspired post three up is truly a forum classic and should be showcased for all to see.
If anything good was to come from the cannibal attacks that occurred last week, this is surely it . . .

Your observation of the current climate on our beloved forum is "Spot On" sir..
However, if you ever benefited from the legitimate and professional postings then I appeal to you to just let this lower level disturbance past by and you will see that the real pros will prevail.
I realized that there is a very strong presence of usable advice here and that the negatives fade away.
I honestly don't know how I would've overcome my Vegas Pro learning curve if it were not for certain members taking the time to share their knowledge.
We need, and I need people who make this site what it really is.
Please allow yourself to give it another chance.

Whenever I came here for help, I got it.
I always found this place highly agreable, as are the helpful notorious people here.
Shame to see people like you taking a leave, Dave.
As suggested, an option would be to simply ignore the nonsense...but I know how qnnoying a forum that you like can feel when the vibe goes bad.

I wish I had just a smidgen of the knowledge the people on this board has. If you feel you must abandon ship the onus is on you. However, I will miss your guidance.

There was a little bit of a nova which, like all such events, has faded. This occurred on a very light hearted and fun thread during which "he who should not be named" introduced the adversarial note. If I had remembered his thread about the upside down moon I would have realised that any response would be counter-productive, but unfortunately I got sucked in and it took a few posts before I understood the environment. So apologies to those by-standers who felt burned.
