Vegas 7 on XP
Now more working with audio most of the times on my comp', which means I don't use Vegas any more since they don't seem to "lighten up" about the needs here. :-(
Wave Agent by Sound Devices (and Zaxconvert for my mics system) does most of the tricks I've been expecting from Vegas for years. And it's free. So I guess it could also be the minimum that's implemented in Vegas if they were serious enough (BWF files? what the hell is that?).

I´ve had Video Factory, Vegas 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9
9b/64 works great for me.
Only thing that not work is "save media with project" (trimmed or not).
I can get around it with carefull planning but I hope it will be solved soon.

Started with Vegas 1.0 for audio sweetening in a 3/4" (videotape) edit suite.
Currently have 7.0e, 8.0c and 9.0b installed.
Staying with 8.0c until the various "quirks" get ironed out of 9.0.

(BWF files? what the hell is that?).

Something that has been asked for (and promised??) for years :-(

Started with Vegas 4, then 5, 6, 8.

Just started with 9.0b and wish I had stayed with 8.0c.
I did not not what 'red frames were all about until today.
Rendered 1.5 hour project,
SD only
no graphics
very little correction

Just by chance, noticed the RED terror on a 4" clip. Closed project. Restart and its fine. Same happened with another project.

Shame really, I just lost confidence in V9.0b.

(Quad core i7, win XP pro and plenty of RAM)

I use 9.0b 64-bit now.

I started using Vegas when it was Sonic Foundry's audio multi-track program. Skipped some versions of upgrades along the way.

I've been happy with v9, using 9.0b on Windows 7 32 bit.

Happy with 9.0b in Vista 64Bit on a iCore 7 build....

i have re-installed 8c after a go-round with 9b...i have both on the desktop as i had some smaller projects started with V9 and need to access, but am finishing up a major project in V8 because i know what to expect. i will wait for the next release of V9 to be out for a while before going back to it, and may wait until i can upgrade or replace my machine to a 64bit unit.

I'm using 8.0c primarily because it allows me to see what I'm recording in HD. I have 9.0b installed, but have not had the time to use it confidently.

I'm using 9b, but I'm still having major problems with memory. I have XP 32bit with 4GB RAM (check my system), I recently tried to edit some mp4 1440x1080 video files from my HX1 and after about 12 clips the editor would no longer allow me to preview clips and then finally froze. After a reboot, I wasn't able to render to default AVC unless I lowered the Dynamic RAM to "0" and the rendering threads to "1". Not a happy camper with this and can now appreciate complaints by AVCHD users who, I guess, use Intel Core2 Quad CPUs like myself. Maybe if I upgrade to Win7 64bit and get 8GB RAM things will work out. However, it should (like Vegas 7 did) work for us 32 bit users too - IMHO...

Started using Vegas with 8.0b - then 8.0c, then 8.1 and all the 9.0 upgrages - I use 9.0b now and haven't gone back to 8 for anything - haven't found any reason to. both 32 and 64 bit versions work well on my XP64 system with 8 BG of ram, Q6600 processor over clocked to 3.33ghz. All I work with is AVCHD though so can't comment on other formats.

8.0c.

I use its inbuilt MultiCam lots, in combination with panning at SD or 320x240 within mixture of HD & HDV in same project, which I find possible but impractical with other multicam solutions for Vegas or indeed in FCP.

Got 9.0b but waiting for 9.0c or d - and the end of my current stack of projects (months - Xmas? I can wait for solidity - give the new programmer(s) time to "get it" - less haste, more speed).

8.0c - it has Decklink working

9.0b - when I need RED

Means I have to Edit RED in 9.0b and then render out to see it on SDI from 8.0c. Not a great workflow but it works....

7.0d - Editing HDV. Very stable.. Most likely will upgrade to version 9 before years end.

I thought now would be a good time to give an unofficial result so far for the survey.

With 100% of the vote counted... we need either a runoff or a recount!
Votes cast so far look like this:

9b - 15 votes
8c - 15 votes
7d - 6 votes
8a - 1 vote
7e - 1 vote
6? - 1 vote

Fine Print:
Sometimes it was difficult to determine exactly which version the user was actually voting for but I tried to go with the version that sounded like it was performing the bulk of their work.

still on 8c here, because 9 won't import my custom render settings
erikd wrote on 10/8/2009, 10:29 PM
Ken cast the tiebreaker. 8c is the workhorse winner.

8c - 16 votes
9b - 15 votes
7d - 6 votes
8a - 1 vote
7e - 1 vote
6? - 1 vote

Fine Print:

Back from holiday - see your post:

Primary: definitely 8c as a 100 pct reliable workhorse for deshaking/ converting all my raw input media.
9b cannot do this. It just gives a lot of the dreaded "reds".

Secondary: 9b for the creative work afterwards - which it does very well - and because it's much faster.

8.0c for me as well.
dogwalker wrote on 10/12/2009, 6:01 AM
I'm using 8c as well. Nothing against 9, just didn't take advantage of the upgrade.
dxdy wrote on 10/12/2009, 6:39 AM
9.0b, except when it won't finish a render, then back to 8.0c

I didn't realize how much I like the dark 9.0b background until I had to fall back and render a wmv-based video in 8.0c. The .wmv came out of the latest Super(C), which rendered it from a .flv

How's that for convoluted?

(BTW - Super(c) used all four cores on my Q6600. I am more impressed by it all the time).
eVoke wrote on 10/13/2009, 9:52 AM
I'm using 9.0b
32bit when I need to use Magic Bullet Quick Looks
64bit for everything else

** If they could address/correct the issue with not having a video preview while ingesting HD footage via firewire [under 64bit] I'd be ecstatic.

*** I'm also running 8.0 on an older 32bit system
