freeform PIP is still not working /corner points disappear

Mindmatter wrote on 5/13/2023, 10:55 AM

Hi all,

each time I need to distort PIP into a specific perspective perspective, the corner point markers simply didappear into nothingness when expanded beyond a certain limit. From there on, they remain untouchable / uneditable both in the FX UI and the preview window.
It's quite frustrating and a really obvious bug that's been there for quite some time now.

Is there a fix?

Thanks!

@Mindmatter Why not use the zoom to reduce the window to access the corner?

@Mindmatter 😁👍🤷‍♂️ Yeah it used to be a problem before they added the zoom, & the corners used to be tiny little grey +'s,

I use a mouse, the wheel zooms the preview in & out & press the wheel moves/drags the image, 👍

@Gid or anyone, the ability to zoom in/out the preview window was recently introduced (meaning, my Vegas 19 does not have it and never will). I have a question about this - is it exclusive to Vegas 365 right now?

Gid wrote on 5/14/2023, 12:01 PM

@NOVAdash I don't have 365, I have the perpetual license for Vegas 20

@NOVAdash The Preview Window Zoom feature was introduced in Vegas Pro 20 (build 214) onwards. It is not available in any version of Vegas Pro 19.

NOVAdash wrote on 5/14/2023, 12:15 PM

@Gid @Steve_Rhoden Much appreciated. I have some thinking to do while it's on sale. I like being able to move the preview window to a 2nd screen but really don't like not being able to zoom in, especially when the video is higher res than my monitor and I can't pan around. Resolve does this very well but I couldn't find a way to use it on a 2nd screen like Vegas (this alone brought me back here). But it's also much more stable. It's a struggle. Thanks for the input!

Gid wrote on 5/14/2023, 12:33 PM

@NOVAdash I wish I could help, I have a 24" monitor & a 32" monitor , I keep Vegas on the 32",

If I try using 'Video preview on external monitor' it sends the preview window to the 24" & it's way bigger than it should be 🤷‍♂️

Windows screen capture looks wrong, the other monitor isn't that small 🤷‍♂️

& if i take a photo it doesn't look real either, but the zoom goes with the preview window

🤸‍♂️🙃🤦‍♂️😁👍

Ps, there's a few options at the top of Resolve, inc dual screen? this doesn't quite put the preview on a separate monitor to..

NOVAdash wrote on 5/14/2023, 12:41 PM

Haha @Gid you did help. I guess I wasn't clear. I undock the video preview and move it over to the 2nd screen. This allows for more granular adjustments when manipulating effects vice the small docked window. Not talking about previewing video full screen (Resolve does do this but it isn't useful to me) l. Being able to zoom in/out is the only thing I'm missing from 19 as 4k video is larger than my 1440p screen, and when not scaled I can't manipulate things outside of the center 1440p and when scaled it's hard to see pixel by pixel movement.

Gid wrote on 5/14/2023, 12:50 PM

@NOVAdash Yeah the zoom does make a lot of difference, you can see the zoomed out in my pictures earlier, & these are zoomed in to the max on UHD

100%

& zoomed in with a mask applied

Just realised those pics above are Good (Half) doh! 🤦‍♂️

This is Best (Full) zoomed to the max - smaller pixels

@Gid, I have a 24" 1080HD monitor I preview on and had the problem of the preview being larger than the monitor, bleeding over to my 4K monitor. There is a setting that fixed it for me, having AMD graphics card.

For me, it was in Preferences>Display, check marking Use Alternate HighDPI Settings.

Gid wrote on 5/15/2023, 6:09 AM

@Reyfox Thanks, I think that works,

Before with Preview video on external monitor,

After turning on Alternate HighDPI, like i say this screen grab is wrong proportions but all the image is visible now & looks right 👍

--------------

To have all the controls in a saved layout where the preview is dragged to my other monitor, i still can't double click it to make it full screen, part at the top gets lost

This is how my saved layout is just positioned/stretched to fit

& double click makes it too big, the zoom is lost at the top, it doesn't matter tho, the saved layout is big enough & I'm happy that Preview video on external monitor is working right 👍 I'm not going to start messing wit any desktop settings... don't think so.. 😁👍

@Gid, the second monitor is just that. I don't have the Taskbar on it. I have in Display Settings, I have in the drop down menu, Extend these displays. If I want to see my Preview on the second monitor, in Vegas above the Preview window, Video Preview on Extended Monitor ( Atl+Shift+4 )

With Vegas Pro 19 Build 651 the corner markers on Picture in Picture fx disappeared. There's no good way to control the placement of the PIP. Is there a fix?

Gid wrote on 5/24/2023, 6:24 PM

@rebecca-rice Hi, can you share a picture? if it's like the OP's where the corner points go beyond the edge of the preview screen then no they're beyond reach because there's no zoom window in VP19.

Yes. And another thing, many of the fx now only take effect once I close out of the fx box so there is no way to see what may be happening. Pic of the PIP with no corner markers below. I made the red box smaller using the crop tool so I could show that the corner markers are simply not there. I have the option of using the sliders, but again, that is very imprecise and the effect does not show up until I close the fx box which is leaving a lot of guesswork regarding sizing and time lost.

rebecca-rice wrote on 5/24/2023, 7:01 PM

Also, I went back to a project that I completed for a client three weeks ago where I used the PIP as usual but the corner markers have disappeard in the logos where I used the PIP. Nothing else changed except the build 651.

Gid wrote on 5/24/2023, 7:21 PM

@rebecca-rice Hi, I see they're not actually going off screen but not showing at all, sorry I tried a few ways but couldn't make the points disappear, the only way I could make them disappear was when I clicked on Pan/crop to change.

But if as you say other fx don't show until you close the fx box perhaps you need to reset Vegas. you won't loose your presets & windows layouts are easy to reorganise.
