Getting "Error 0x8004e1c7 (message missing)" when adding video

Scoryth wrote on 4/26/2019, 8:33 PM

Howdy! I'm attempting to add a video to my project to begin editing, but I receive the message "Warning: An error occurred while opening one or more files. Error 0x8004e1c7 (message missing)" The file I'm trying to load is an MP4 video, so nothing special or odd. I don't know what's causing this error or how to fix it and the "message missing" part of the error is a bit of a concern. I have attempted to load other MP4 video files and have had no problem at all - they loaded, I was able to cut them, add transitions, overlays, etc. Everything works fine. However, some are getting this error message. The only consistent thing I've noticed is that the videos that are not loading, are videos that came from my webcam. I do YouTube videos and use a webcam to overlay in the video as I'm speaking to the viewer. The other videos - the main content does not cause this error. Any suggestions?

I'm running Windows 10 and using Movie Studio 16.0. Also, I doubt this makes a difference, but I am still using the Trial version at this point because I want to make sure I can edit all my videos before I actually purchase this software. I'm 99% happy with it and very willing to purchase, but this one recurring error is a big problem. I'd be grateful for any help, and I can provide more information if needed if it helps solve this problem. Thanks!

Mp4 is a container so it could well contain something which is "special or odd", and which VMS doesn't have a codec to handle.

I'm having the same issue, but using Vegas Pro 15. The footage is from a webcam using Logitech Capture. I pasted the results from MediaInfo as well as the properties from a clip that works with Vegas Pro 15. Please let me know if you can help me or if I should start a new thread :)

Your first file has a variable framerate with a very wide variation which VMS won't like. Your second file appears to be fixed framerate but we cannot be sure. Can you please post mediainfo on this second file like you have on the first.
