GL Transitions always crash program (Solved)

Bill-Maries wrote on 3/22/2023, 8:56 PM

Latest Vegas Edit (updated today, but was also doing it before todays update), RTX4080 12GB, 24 Core 13th Gen Intel, 64gb Ram, Windows 11 laptop

I can't even open the transition window to GL Transitions now, and I have a project with a few of them in, I used to be able to open the window with it crashing maybe 2 in every 5 times, now its all the time. I've tried with different preview windows open. I cant even edit the transitions I already have with them on without it crashing either. Ive spent hours wasted on this.

These are the best transitions and I need some advice on what to do please as I have just paid for the software for the year and need to continue my project using them, if anyone can help please?

Error Code is:

also on render... these transitions will not always render the transitions that are selected! then other times they do... its so frustrating having to render over and over again in the hope it MIGHT work. completly unworkable. please any advice? tempted to get my money back if not.

I don't have an Intel/Nvidia computer. My specs in my signature below. All the GL Transitions that I have tried (including some that were made by others), work in Build 370.

Maybe you can try something by disabling your GPU in Options>Preferences>Video Tab>GPU Acceleration to OFF. You didn't list what your CPU is... does it have an iGPU, etc...

Read this POST, especially B and C and supply the required information.

Wolfgang S. wrote on 3/23/2023, 6:11 AM

I also agree that it is not clear by now, if Vegas can work with an RTX 4080 at the moment. There have been some complains by users, who has tried to do so.

So I would recommend to follow Reyfoxs advice, to disable the RTX 4080 in the Preferences, and - if available - to enable an i-GPU here. At least you should do that for testing.

Another question is, which nvidia driver version you are using?

Thankyou for your time getting back to me, here's the specs of the laptop, nvidia is latest, the studio one. I'll test it without the gpu on no problem, won't run very well I don't think and defeats the whole purpose but I'll see if it makes a difference. Well if the software isn't working with a processor that's now sold as standard in all computers, I'm happy to wait a few weeks until Magix updates things if I have too - but if the wait is going to be longer than a few months I think I'll have to get my money back and use something else. Hopefully won't be the case and there is a workaround. Many thanks and later tonight I'll get a full spec list and videos etc to show everything. Basically the laptop and windows 11 and nvidia and Vegas pro is all the latest ver but I'll list it all as requested

Your processor is not sold as standard on all computers. There are dozens of processors sold that aren't that particular one. The same with GPU's. @Wolfgang S. is mentioning specifically the graphics card and not the CPU.

You also mention about getting your money back... for the laptop? You can forget about it for the software. You will be way out of the time to return it.

Happy to try to render out a sample project to see if it's a universal problem with Vegas.

Are the GL Transitions ones that came with Vegas or custom ones as well?

Custom PC (2022) Intel i5-13600K with UHD 770 iGPU with latest driver, MSI z690 Tomahawk motherboard, 64GB Corsair DDR5 5200 ram, NVIDIA 2080 Super (8GB) with latest studio driver, 2TB Hynix P41 SSD and 2TB Samsung 980 Pro cache drive, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit

ASUS Zenbook Intel i9-13900H with Intel graphics iGPU with latest ASUS driver, NVIDIA 4060 (8GB) with latest studio driver, 48GB system ram, Windows 11 Home, 1TB Samsung SSD.

You haven't said what video driver you have installed. OpenGL is a Windows component.

Reyfox wrote on 3/23/2023, 7:53 AM

@RogerS I just tried a custom and a "stock" GL transition on 4K 50P and they both rendered correctly. I used AMD VCE for rendering.

Former user wrote on 3/23/2023, 8:31 AM

@Bill-Maries Hi, just for the sake of sharing, when I directed you to this forum from the Magix one I went through most of the GL transitions to see for myself as I had just updated to build 370, I had no problems with them, I'm on Windows 10 tho whether that makes any difference,

This is what rendering an HEVC file with a few GL transitions did to my AMD CPU, the RTX 3090 wasn't doing much. the rendered file played no prob.

PS, playing new Samsung S23 Ultra phone, I didn't realise 'Super Steady' recorded in 2560x1440. that's why the project is that size, I have tried GL with UHD & AVC files with no prob,

The pic above was rendering with these settings

Reyfox wrote on 3/23/2023, 8:58 AM

@Former user, next time you show Task Manager CPU, right mouse click in that area and select Logical Processors. I'd be interested in seeing how many of them are working! 😉

Wolfgang S. wrote on 3/23/2023, 9:04 AM

Sorry, but I do not know which driver the "latest" is - I think you talk about the driver?

What we know is that there are some issues with the latest nvidia drivers. So, what you could try is not only to disable the GPU, but also to use an older nvidia driver for the GPU. Up to you if you wish to try that.

I'll test it without the gpu on no problem, won't run very well I don't think and defeats the whole purpose but I'll see if it makes a difference. g

The recommendation was not to use the software without any GPU. Your processor has an i-GPU, you should be able to enable this i-GPU in both the preferences and the I/O settings.

Well if the software isn't working with a processor that's now sold as standard in all computers, I'm happy to wait a few weeks until Magix updates things if I have too - but if the wait is going to be longer than a few months I think I'll have to get my money back and use something else.

I think the software has no issue with the processor, but maybe with the GPU. Maybe you mix that up?

This is a user forum. Nobody here - even not I as moderator - are able to agree with you a refund. I would recommend you to inform yourself about the terms and conditions of your purchase, and to contact Magix about that if you wish to do so.

But frankly spoken, we are uses like you, and try to help you on a friendly base - from user to user.

You probably DON'T want the "latest" driver. Try driver 522.3.

Former user wrote on 3/23/2023, 9:14 AM

@Reyfox This project was still up n running & nothing's changed, so I ran it again for you, It looks lke all of them are working, the GPU is showing more because I'm screen capturing it with NVidia's Geforce Overlay

PS. I'm using the latest Studio driver 531.41 & I don't believe my PC has onboard graphics, Google -

'This processor does not have integrated graphics, you will need a separate graphics card. Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX, '

I'll Post all specs and a video later tonight. If I can't get it working I'm happy to just not use gl transitions and buy some new ones? Any reccomendations? And a refund is a last resort of course, I don't want to leave Vegas

@Bill-Maries, are you going to try the OLDER video driver? Version 522.3?

Bill-Maries wrote on 3/23/2023, 11:38 AM

Magix got back to me and told me to disable my gpu so I'll try it when I get back. Also someone on Facebook told me to Copy the project into a new project. That does solve the problem as i tried it last night, i just loose my master fx, composition modes etc and it's long winded as hell but is a workaround whenever it crashes for now. Yeah it's also vague if my gpu is supported also. No idea.

@Bill-Maries Hi, just guessing but do these settings have an affect?

Bill-Maries wrote on 3/23/2023, 2:42 PM

SOLVED

Dear Bill,

Thank you for your message. Did you try disabling your GPU as was suggested in the forum post? To do this click Options > Preferences > Video tab, then turn “GPU acceleration of video processing” to off, and set “dynamic RAM preview” to 0, click apply and OK.

magix

my reply:

thanks for the quick reply, ok I tried that and it solved the issue! It didnt crash when I went on those transitions anymore, however playback wasn't good even on low setting. I then switched it back to my normal settings, and now... no problems! The GL transitions seem to be ok. So if that happens again, that can be a work around to switch it then switch back. Many thanks for your help on this.

For now that seems like a good work around and if I have other issues in the future ill try all the other suggestions from the rest also. 528.49 DCH is my Nvidia if anyone was interested. Vegas ver. is listed at top. Computer in the screen print. If I have any problems in future ill post out in the listed formats to save time also. Many thanks again.

@Bill-Maries Hi, before you go can you click your icon at the top of this page - My Profile & fill in your Signature with the full name of your CPU, GPU & amount of RAM, also inc the Windows & Vegas version, this will then show at the bottom of your comments, have a look at mine & others👍

& there's not many RTX4000 series on here yet, I've got a 3090SUPRIM, it'd be interesting if you would run the benchmark with your setup 👍 @RogerS will point you in the right direction for that 👍

I'm so tempted to get an RTX4090 SUPRIM 😂🤸‍♂️

Bill-Maries wrote on 3/23/2023, 3:53 PM

cool done. ill post the video here next week. the render took 9 mins. its mad, i love it. here is my computer: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/recoil-VII-17/

went with the 4080 over the 4090 to save a little bit, wasn't cheap. buy now pay later deal. I was gunna do a desktop but the laptop was the cheaper option, 4080 for desktops are silly money, still.
