GPU accel. video processing (with Titan X) causes frequent crashes.

I have a Nvidia GTX Titan X on my Windows 10 (64 bit) system.

Leaving GPU accelerated video processing on in Sony Vegas' video preferences causes the program to frequently crash throughout the editing process, not just rendering.

I guess I should ask what this option actually does before I get angry that I can't use it (and now for some reason I can't turn it back on?).

Video previews seem to be slower now, or is that just my imagination?

Is there a fix for this issue? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my graphics card drivers as other threads have mentioned to no effect.

Thanks,

WJ.

This forum has quite a few threads discussing Nvidia and AMD gpus and various Vegas'  problems  with GPU acceleration.  Have a search for specifics.

In general, AMD GPU's are preferred... perhaps due to better Open CL compatibility.  Timeline editing is definitely better with a functioning gpu.  Rendering is hit-and-miss depending on codec rendered to.

GPU acceleration of video processing uses OpenCL to, errr, accelerate video processing. It generally works better with AMD cards than Nvidia cards. I have an AMD card and I still don't usually use it.

What driver version do you have now? @bitman made positive reports for drivers 378.49 and 378.66 for the GTX Titan-x with Vegas in Windows 10. But that was before the Windows 10 Creators update. And he might not have had GPU acceleration turned on. Nevertheless, if you have a new or older drivers than those then maybe you could try them. If so, please let us know how it goes.
