jrazz, are you doing any editing in Vegas and rendering as m2t or are you just dropping the raw captured footage into Dr DivX?

I am editing. Sometimes if I am doing a lot of CC or other intense editing I will make a cineform avi first (but I haven't made one in a while). Usually I just plop the captured footage on the timeline, edit away and then encode to another M2T file. I know that you lose quality this way, but I have yet to notice a difference. Once I have the encoded file, I drag it from the windows explorer over into Dr.DivX and it recognizes the file and encodes to DivX.

I've ended up frameserving uncompressed AVI files at full 1080 interlaced from Vegas to VirtualDub with the Debugmode Frameserver. In VirtualDub I deinterlace (discard field 2) and resize (Lanczos 3) as Laurence suggested. Then I compress with Xvid, single pass 2500 kbps (DX50 fourCC) with 160 kbps Lame MP3.

I'm sure the Pegasus MJPEG workflow is fine too but I'm happy with my results which you can see on the Bubble Vision channel on Stage6. "Myanmar Magic" was deinterlaced (blend fields) and resized in Vegas then passed to VirtualDub as a Cineform AVI. The other 16:9 videos were all done with my newer workflow.

Yesterday my Quad core machine died so while it's being fixed I decided to write up an illustrated guide, How to prepare high definition video for www.stage6.com from Sony Vegas.

Quite a lot of people have asked me for my method so I hope this is useful.

Please let me know if any of it is inaccurate or if you have suggestions for improving the workflow.

I have one specific question... on a virgin XP machine, if you install Sony Vegas, Debugmode Frameserver and VirtualDub, will VirtualDub be able to read and show the AVI files that the Frameserver feeds it? I seem to remember VirtualDub didn't used to work for me and I just want to check that it's not just working now because I have installed VLC Player or something. Thanks
