HELP! - 4K footage - specifically C4K from GH4

I don't want to use Premiere Pro. I really don't. I have to though. Vegas will have nothing to do with my GH4 footage at all. Is there anyone out there who have been able to reliably work with C4K footage? GH4 CK4 footage? I am desperate for any information on how to get this to work.

I start a project with properties 4096x2160 24p. I drop a clip onto the timeline. I go: File -> Render-> (all codecs I have tried so far, no matter what properties) and the result is always the same:

"Vegas Pro has stopped working".

This is prior to doing anything at all to the clip. Obviously, when I put the clip on the time line, the video portion is still four times longer than the audio, the last three quarters consisting of the final frame in the video.

Running this in the Visual Studio debugger I get the following error:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.ExecutionEngineException' occurred in Sony.Vegas.dll

Now, if anyone at Sony wants to send med the .pdb for the Sony.Vegas.dll for the 373 build of Vegas I can provide a lot more information, but that would require SCS employees wandering these halls... and reading our messages :-)

im on VP`13 doing GH4 4K video.... did some C4k without issues a few months ago, currently working with UHD 30p, but maybe I can try what you did later tonight.

Vegas itself is occasionally buggy and crashy. Always try a clean reboot before running and disable background stuff running....

I did some editing with GH4 C4K .mov footage a while back and it was OK, but I didn't render.

I have just tried rendering from C4K .mov and .mp4 footage and it commenced rendering fine. I only tested to MC AVC 1080p and to Debugmode Frameserver. No crashes.

I also just completed a short render to MC AVC/AAC at full C4K resolution.

Same no problems for me with C4K from my GH4 except the known length bug for 24p

My first experience with 4K was from my Samsung S5. While it was fun to blow up and play with, it was immediately evident that editing 4k, which is 4 times the data of 1080, requires more CPU/GPU power to work with. You have to consider this unless you work with proxy files so part of your problem lies here. Rendering is twice as long as well. Here's a link to a wedding I shot in 4K as a guest instead of as a videographer: I look forward to the 4K workflow. It will resurrect the desktop computer.

I have 3 GH4's and shoot heaps of C4K. I use NCH Prism software to convert the 4K to 1080. The footage from the GH4 in 4K is astounding, and the image quality is mostly kept when downscaling to 1080. I set the quality to 15, having the quality set to the highest results in huge files and plus no one really notices the difference. Try it next time.
