Help - can't render video or burn dvd

hbwerner wrote on 9/28/2015, 4:34 PM
I have Pro12.0 which has worked well up to now where I started with and audio file then added pictures plus an sound and picture video. When I go to render it only opens rendering for audio. In addition I was having a problem when editing in that at some point during editing the audio output went to mute. I had to close an open Pro to get the sound back. I reinstalled 12.0 and still have no sound output, and rendering shows mpeg in the available list, but won't permit me to render (the button won't light up). When I close render and reopen, it labels the file .wav and will only permit rendering as an audio file. I opened for a new project, put in a video, and rendering still only for .wav.

What are the project properties?

Changed your video driver?

"View All Options" checked?

Video track selected? Or just audio?
hbwerner wrote on 9/28/2015, 9:45 PM
I've done nothing with video driver. All options are checked on render screen, and both video and both audio tracks are selected in the left hand window. MPEG shows up in the render list, but the render button won't activate it. Also the file name defaults to .wav whenever I open up render. If i try to change it to mpg it doesn't help

project properties are - 1/2 audio with photo stills, and the other video audio from a video camera. I've tried even cutting out the video camera part and still no difference.

After I removed and re-installed 12 with the latest download, the problem was still there, so opened up for a new project, put in the video from my camera, and it still wouldn't render.

Do you have "Match Project Settings" checked?

Uncheck that if you do.
hbwerner wrote on 9/28/2015, 10:42 PM
It's been unchecked. I also tried to burn DVD under tools, and it burned two files, empty folder audio TS and folder video TS with video_TS files and vts-0t files. Needless to say, it wouldn't play on anything.

Empty audio folder is normal for a DVD. That function was never finished.

Did you get updates recently for Windows since it used to work before?
hbwerner wrote on 9/29/2015, 7:31 AM
It's possible there might have been a Window update since the last time I used it.

I'm really stalled - this is a funeral compilation and there was lots of editing. I don't know if I can lift the edited form and put into another program such as Nero, but I'm really locked out of finishing it in Pro

Is the video showing in the preview window?

The reason the MainConcept is rendering only the audio is that it thinks there is no video. This can happen when the video tracks are muted.

Also, the video in your project - is it in a .mov container? If so, there may be a problem with the version of QuickTime you have on your computer. I had a similar issue and had to revert to 10.6.2 (not 10.62).

More thoughts:

You started the project with an audio file. This likely meant Vegas set project properties for an audio-only project. As an experiment, start a new project, drag in the video portion of your inputs, and see if you can render a minute or two of it.

If this works, close down Vegas. Open a new project. Then start a second copy of Vegas, open your original project, go into the original project, select All, Copy, go into the other copy of vegas and Paste (Ctrl V). Try and render...

Good luck...,

Two parts. First is an audio track with still photos. The second is video from my camera. I opened PRO for a new project, put in the video from the camera, and it still wouldn't allow rendering.

I couldn't get paste to work in the newly opened window, but I called up another video I did a couple of months ago, and now the only render allowed is audio, and the file it calls for the rendered media is .wav. Between that one and the one I'm working on, I did have just the audio media and had saved it as a .veg. I had never tried to render that file, but I just deleted the file with no effect on the problem.

OK - still in trouble. I installed 12 on another computer (didn't download the update during installation to save time). I then moved the veg file and media to that machine (except it wouldn't load the wma audio file), and I could only render in mxf. I opened a new project and put in a different video media, and it would only do that in mxf. Actually mxf NTS wide screen. How do I get the AVI or mpeg version out of that? And why is this happening with 12?

I think we need to see a screen shot of your " Project Properties " window..
hbwerner wrote on 10/7/2015, 1:01 PM
I have a screen shot of the Project Properties Video, but don't know how to attach it to get it to you. I tried copy and paste but paste didn't work.

You can send it to me in an email - and i will get it up for all to see..

You can click on my user name and send me an email with the image attached..

I clicked on your name and it opened a Forum email to you with a box like this which doesn't allow me to attach anything. Do you you know of a way to do this? The Forum keeps our e-mail addresses confidential.

Well, you can email me with a " Hello there " ... I will reply, and you can send me the image...

OK - I bought another Win 7 computer, loaded Vegas Pro 12 from the disk (didn't link for any updates), loaded in short video file from a portable drive whic was from a DV camera. To render, it will only enable render in .mxf type files. It will not allow mpeg rendering I had tried this on still a third computer and didn't find any way to use the mxf. What's going on? Should I give up on Vegas Pro? How can I use the MXF file?
Former user wrote on 12/7/2015, 10:19 AM
Make sure you do not have "Match Project Settings" selected under the OUTPUT FORMAT on the RENDER AS window.
hbwerner wrote on 12/7/2015, 11:19 PM
1) I didn't have match project settings selected in the Render window. I did then try selecting it and it only allowed audio rendering. I also tried when transfering media to the time line doing it both with match source and without match source, and there was no difference in the render choices. This is all crazy - I've used Vegas Pro 12 up to this time with no problem, and now even on a brand new computer with no other video programs (no other programs period) I get this problem. I did not yet connect to the web to run an update on this version 12.0 build 367 which I loaded from disk, but had 12.0 build 770 on the computer where previously things worked. On this new one I just tried another clip from the DV camera that had prerviously worked fine in an earlier production, with no change or ability to render mpeg. However, when I tried prior projects, they too were limited and couldn't do mpeg
2) One other thing - on the original problem the first piece of media I had put on the time line was an audio clip, then added other video and photo materials. I might have clicked on setting the project to the media when I first added it, but now I don't know how to change it back, plus any other media I use in a new project has the same rendering problem.
