Help please

Good evening fellow editiors i have a question, I'm trying to replicate this effect where in the video track it looks like its blinking. What i mean is something like this

from 0:18 to 0:22 how do you do that? Is it just quick transition? or is there an effect i can add to do this? Any help is much appreciated.

I'm using vegas movie studio hd platinum 11

I am no pro but it looks to me like it is just: picture followed by fade to black, another picture followed by a fade to black; and a third picture with yet another fade to black.

I am interested how they do the trick a 1.25 I have always wanted to do some things like that.

Both effects would be quite easy in Vegas. For the pulsing black, just drop a black generated media the length you want and fade it in and out. The other is even easier. Put the "background" video on the track below the main video. On the main video track, right-click on the track header and enable the mute envelope. Double-click on the mute envelope in two places where you want the lower track to show through, and drag the envelope between those two spots down to zero.
