HF Ignite Puppet: Not working as expected (bugs+)

AVsupport wrote on 1/11/2018, 1:38 AM

[This is a sorta repost from @Kit-As-Was 's OP here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/ot-thoughts-on-ignite-2017--109467/ ] -as I wanted some more traction on the issue before I try to get customer service involved ;-)

Test done with a PNG graphic containing a translucent Alpha channel, VP15, & latest Ignite

  • After creating the Mesh in 'Edit Mode' and defining a number of Control Points, Those Control Points not always 'stick' to the mesh where they should [works in HFP6]
  • Changing modes from 'Edit' to 'Animate' doesn't always change the mode of the actual Control Points [works in HFP]
  • Editing Control Points Key Frames in the FX timeline window doesn't work well at all (not like in HFP): Cannot right-click & select from context menu anything (copy, paste, delete..) etc, only when mouse is left-click-and-hold select & right click at the same time (weired..who does this..) the Context window is Not greyed out for keyframes..
  • Editing Control points in the Preview Window may not always produce the desired effect (ie Edit vs Animate..) (does in HF)
  • Keyframes are not always automatically created / adjusted in their function and as they should when manipulating in Preview [HF OK]

this is only the tip of the iceberg..

Q: Who's problem is this (being a plugin from our beloveth Hitfilm crew..) MAGIX or HITFILM to fix? or me, just suck'n'see??

Q: Who's problem is this MAGIX or HITFILM to fix?

IMO, HitFilm should be the company to look into this.

While many NLE's, including Vegas Pro, open their NLE's to third party providers, it is the third party provider who ultimately needs to ensure that their plugins work in compatible NLEs. If there is a plugin function that doesn't work well, then I suggest that it is up to the third party company to liaise with the NLE company to resolve the problem.

It would, however, be a different matter if it were the NLE company packaging the plugin via a sales promotion.

Have you disolved it?

AVsupport wrote on 5/12/2019, 6:16 PM

Had lost interest and moved on; however there was a new version of Ignite but not sure if the Puppet tool got some needed love.

Its definitely worth testing but I'll be away from my machine for a month..

wow the puppet tool is included with the new ignite? I'm not surprised vegas might be having a hard time with it.

AVsupport wrote on 5/12/2019, 8:13 PM

'Ignite Puppet' is V1.0 and part of the Ignite - Distort group of FX. Just checked, and cannot see any improvements of the problems listed.

Control points when edited on Preview Screen fail to connect to mesh. However, Can be done in Position-Box in FX editor window, but not very well (tip: move using <CTRL> +mouse to enhance precision).

Not very exciting to use unless you got some time to burn!

Seeing that Magix is trying to get some AfterFX style addon going with those guys, I'm beginning to wonder..

That may actually alleviate some of these issues, because it is a completely separate app that integrates with VP. My guess being that it natively opens VP projects and allow you to work on them and render out from there, perhaps back in Vegas. So, any issues with Vegas not working as well as the native HF app should be sidestepped.

to a certain degree we already have a sort-of-working 'open in Hitfilm' workflow; the benefit of having Ignite is that you don't need that roundtrippin business..; And I wonder if this is going to be another $$-addon whilst I already have HF&Ignite..

I like the hitfilm plugins in vegas, and I like using hitfilm solo, I dont like using add hitfilm effect because I don't understand how to make changes later if I want to or how to possibly save the comps and it also forces me to have a preference ticked on that I want off. So I'm really curious what post winds up being.

I wouldn't expect what ignite in Vegas currently offers to be anywhere near as fully featured, but we'll see.
