if I do 30 tests, in this example not showing the preview I will save in total 30 seconds. In the year, this becomes relevant.

Oh my gosh. A one sec saving in 2mins 24 secs. Not exactly conclusive! Windows only measures to the nearest second so the actual difference may have been only a fraction of a second.

Setting preview to following setting, will not change rendering speed, but gives a fluent preview whilst rendering.
