How do I fill the masked area to fullscreen?

darekdani wrote on 3/9/2024, 6:26 PM

Hello,

Bear in mind, I'm a real newbie when it comes to video editing and Vegas Pro.
I have just created a motion tracked area and masked it with a Bézier mask.
This is what the preview looks like.

Now the mask follows the motion tracked area and I want to make this constantly moving mask full screen.
I have literally spent hours trying to find the right solution with no luck.

Please let me know if you have any tips, I would really appreciate it.

@darekdani Hi, It's not 100% clear what you're trying to do, can you show more pics or video? Full screen with the timeline showing,

What is the mask masking? Is a mask to blur something out?

There's a button called Mask FX that might help? That masks the previous effects applied.

You can upload pictures & video ere using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment,

This is your pic, sorry but it doesn't tell us much..🤔

Thank you for your reply.
I attached the demonstration video about what would I like to do.

Basically I just want to make that tracked area to be full screen, not just "part" of the overall video.

@darekdani Ahh I see, I might be having a bit of a brain freeze but doing that wouldn't be easy, if it was just a static area you'd be able to enlarge/zoom in on the video where the mask is, but because the mask moves across the screen that wouldn't work... You'd need to stabilise the mask or you might have to zoom in with Pan/Crop & manually move the Pan/Crop selection as you scrub through the event ..

Mask tracking does just that: it tracks. I can't recall ever seeing a method within the masking/tracking process of automatically converting the masked/tracked area to full screen.

The pan/crop method suggested by Gid was also the method that came to my mind, and you'd need to use pan/crop keyframing to keep pace and position with the travelling mask.

Keep in mind that the quality of the zoomed-in full frame image is likely to be significantly less when compared to the rest of your project. Your video shows that the project is 1920x1080 and that the mask is about 2/9ths the size of the original image. That means that the resulting image after zooming in so that the masked area is full screen will have a resolution of around 430x240 - that's about the resolution of basic VHS video and Video CD.

I thought the same, that I have to do the pan/crop manually with keyframes. That is unfortunate, this little clip would be only for a little fun, but it seems it would take way too much effort for that.

Anyways, I really appreciate all of your approach and help! 😁

Thank you everyone!

You need to lock it first,

then zoom in.

It's very easy. Look here:

I saw this video before I posted here, but somehow couldn't figure out. But just tried it again with a bit more knowledge and it indeed did the job! 😇

Thank you!!!
