How do I get the old Quicktime render option back?

Hello all,

I am in need of using the old Quicktime render option that used to exist. Using Vegas 20, I selected the "Enable the Quicktime plugin" in the "Deprecated Features" section of preferences. That did not result in any changes. Then, I downloaded and installed Quicktime time from Apple - something that hasn't been updated in years. That did not result in the render option either.

I then decided to go back and try older versions of Vegas that I have. Went back to Vegas 15, and the Quicktime render option is not there either. Went back to 12, not there either.

Is there a solution to this? I thought maybe I needed to give Vegas the path to the quicktime components, but I don't see a way to do that. Is Windows 11 somehow blocking the quicktime components from showing up? I swear that Quicktime used to be an option not that long ago.

And yes - I am aware that it is an obsolete codec. I am trying to produce a video that is running on old hardware designed for Quicktime videos that use the transparency function.

Thanks for any ideas!

@Rumi What was the QT file you downloaded and installed?

This one:

Back in the day, there was Quicktime and Quicktime Pro. I vaguely recall that one needed Pro to do encoding, whereas Quicktime was just a player. I could not find any existing version other than the one above, and they don't call it "Pro" so I don't know if it even has any encoding capability.

In the past 7.7.6 was recommended for VEGAS but not sure if 7.7.9. works the same.

QT 7.7.9 is what I have installed with Win11 24H2 and it works as expected with VP21/315. But I installed QT last year under an earlier Win 11 Build.

@Rumi Does QuickTime appear in your Program Files (x86) folder?

If so these are the files in mine

@Rumi I haven't used QT for a long time but the last installer I downloaded still works for Vegas Pro 21 and 22.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed here!

@EricLNZ - I have the same files as you do minus the two player files. But everything else looks the same. Thank you for showing that to me.

@john_dennis - Thank you for making that video! You have yet another version of QT than the one that I downloaded from Apple. But the fact that is working for you gives me hope that this is still possible.

I still don't know what my problem is. I went back to an old Windows 10 machine and I still couldn't get it to work. Still a mystery. I will keep plugging away at it.

OK I figured it out! I had previously installed QT and when given the option of installing the player, I declined because - well, why would I want the player?? I want to encode, not use the old player. Well, for whatever reason, the player files are needed. After seeing the list of files from @EricLNZ, I reinstalled QT and this time asked to include the player. And now....QT as a rending option is back!

THANK YOU!
