How do I insert this lower third template in my other video projects?

bigdaddyjende-b wrote on 7/10/2019, 3:52 AM

Hi guys,

I downloaded a free lower third template, but I dont know how to import it to other video sony vegas files. I tried to render it and then add it but then the background stays black. Can anyone help or send me a link for a tutorial?

This is the file by the way: https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%21AGnnWsJ5ZaWFhMo&cid=A46A6D78762E7558&id=A46A6D78762E7558%21115&parId=A46A6D78762E7558%21122&action=locate

many thanks in advance.

Just drag the unpacked file "Untitled.veg" into your Vegas Pro timeline.

Hi marco,

It doens work when i do that. See the attached picture IN THE IMGUR LINK. https://imgur.com/a/dY1EnQgTHe rar file consist of the red and below the text image. But if i just drag it only gives me the text tile...any ideas what could do?

Yes, this is expected. There is nothing more in the template you linked above.

no when i open the rar file, you see on the left, there is a red box with below a text image, that is what i got when i opend the vegas file from the rar file. and the veg.bak file from that same rar file gives me only the text image. does this mean the veg.bak file is not complete from the uploader?

Turd wrote on 7/10/2019, 8:41 AM

The media files are missing. You need to download those along with the .veg file, then tell Vegas where you put them. Open the .veg file on its own and Vegas will ask where those media files are. That's when you point to the media files' location.

alright I see your point. But what i did was ignore the media missing files when sony vegas asked for it. And then I got the red and lower text image, with which i am able to make the lower third but i just cant seem to import it to other files.

The <.bak> file is a backup of the <.veg> project file which is created by Vegas and is not really needed.. It may have been in the RAR files already or was recently created in your system.

ok that clears that up. This is the orginial link where the uploader mentioned his lower third.

Perhaps this helps or can we conclude that it doeenst work because of the missing files? Which i personally dont think it is because if you select ignore all missing media files you still get the lower third

rraud wrote on 7/10/2019, 9:57 AM

I downloaded the .rar file, and all that is there are the .veg project and the .bak restore files.. the other needed files are missing all together. Vegas alerts you to this when the project is opened and queries if you wish to search for the missing files, select a new or replacement file, ect., ect., ect., ect.

It's not empty. There is a Text Event and a Solid Color Event in the timeline.

Turd wrote on 7/10/2019, 10:22 AM

The untitled and the backup files are slightly different, but both are missing at least one media file, so the lower third probably doesn't look like bigdaddyjende-b expects it look. You have to ignore the missing file'(s)(') placement when Vegas opens to get the text and the red bar to load on either timeline.

Very strange. I downloaded this afternoon that Dropbox Rar file of the first post of OP.

When I look into that rar file I see this
and when after unpacking I opened that file in VPro 14 I see this

But I cannot find any Text event or solid color in the rar.
Where do I look than?

Strange indeed, I re-downloaded from the first post (OneDrive link) and when unpacked still only see the same two project and restore files . I also tried another .rar extractor app and an online extractor and ZIP converter.. same results. It is possible the .rar file is corrupted. I've had problems with .rar files before and avoid them (if possible).

Turd wrote on 7/10/2019, 11:36 AM

I use 7-Zip to unpack .rar files and saw no corruption. That .rar does have only two files -- the .veg file and the .bak file. The text and solid color medias are there. Only external media is missing. I'm guessing the missing media provides the lower-third's background.

You'd need to ignore the missing media files and then open the project. The Solid Color and Text Events are in the timeline then.

j-v wrote on 7/10/2019, 11:52 AM

Thanks Marco, I did ignore it and this is the result with a picture of myself added on the track under that veg

but marco how can i import the lower third to different projects?

Marco. wrote on 7/10/2019, 11:58 AM

Right as I mentioned in my first post: Just drag the unpacked file "Untitled.veg" into your Vegas Pro timeline. Treat the VEG file as a media file.

but then why do i keep getting only the text image file in my timeline and not the red square?

Marco. wrote on 7/10/2019, 12:13 PM

Because what you see there is a nested timeline where all the elements of the source timeline (including the red Solid Color Event) are composited into one single Event. This is how nesting and the use of such templates works.

I did not play the file long enough to see the text slide in at a round 20 sec.. DUH. Sorry for any confusion. Though VP did state a missing files notice
