How is VEGAS Pro 22? Could you share your reviews and experiences?

I haven't downloaded VEGAS Pro 22 yet because I'm in the middle of an important project and want to avoid potential bugs. I'm continuing to work with version 21 for now. However, I'm really curious about VEGAS Pro 22, especially the new AI features. Reviews and feedback aren't widely available yet. Could anyone who has tried VEGAS Pro 22 share their experiences and opinions on its performance and features

If you are using VP 21.315 it's an evolution of that with useful bugfixes.
Speech to text works again.

For 22's new features just do the trial and see for yourself if you find them useful. For simple projects the audio sync worked for me and AI reframe does save time if you're trying to go from 16:9 to say 1:1. The controls for that aren't completely intuitive though.

We would have loved to give a review if the software worked. It hangs at startup when "Creating windows".
It's a known issue with previous versions of Vegas and still not addressed in V22.

We previously had the issue on V21 and somehow managed to make V21 work on barely half of our computers. We had great hopes for V22's new features, but it does not work on any of our computer (AMD R7 5800X with 32 Go or Ram & Nvidia RTX 4080 on Windows 11 updated to latest patches).

@Guillaume-AUTIER Have you created your own post on this regarding VP 22? It's not quite on topic here and would be good to know what your systems have in common that cause VP 22 to not even load. My guess is an incompatible OFX plugin or VST?

@Guillaume-AUTIER Welcome to the VEGAS community and we are happy to see your first post.

Could you create a thread for this? We would like to help you. In the case you create an error report please attach a screen shot with some easy to find description. The support team will help you to create a crash dump within the task manager which you can send the VEGAS team.

The beauty is, you can have both versions installed alongside each other, you don't have to get rid of one to install the other. Just make sure that when you save projects in VEGAS 22, you save them separately from anything you are working on in 21, do not overwrite projects that you saved in 21, because if you do encounter an issue and need to go back to 21 to finish the project, you will not be able to open a project that was saved in 22.

@Guillaume-AUTIER this sounds like the known issue with the French version of VEGAS. The team has been unable to reproduce the problem even though some French customers have seen it. Please contact support so we can get details on your system and to help us try to determine the root of this problem. The solution right now is to reinstall on English (or another language).

Just updated my Vegas Pro 19 to VGAS Pro Suite 22 but not yet installed.

Almost all the videos I edit are multicam+external audio, so I'm really curious to see if I can (finally) get rid of PluralEyes for syncing...

I have used VP22 now in 15 projects, all to convert Grassvalley HQ 720x576 50i 422 footage to 1080 50p footage. The new AI smoother has been used to denoise the footage, and the new AI sharpener to increase the sharpness again. This combination worked great for me.

Preview performance was nice during editing. Render speed was nice too, but declines in some cases. I did not perceive crashes during editing, the version is quite stable here.

And I know, that the team is working on further improvements and developments. The ongoing activity is to continue the update of the video engine in Vegas Pro 22, what will take more time. But even the actual build is better then VP21, more stable and improved yet.

My personal experience with VP22. First, using the English version, so I do not suffer from what @Guillaume-AUTIER posted. Everything loads up and works great for me.

I have BorisFX Continuum Complete 2024.5, NBFX TotalFX 360, old Ignite Pro 5, Happy Otter Scrips, Vegasaur, Voukoder Pro (waiting for Classic), proDAD Mercalli Suite V5 and Vitascene V5Pro. Everything is there and working.

I really wanted to try out the AI Dehaze since I do shoot distant images that need something like this. In the past, I've used Boris BCC+Haze for this. I compared the both, and I have to say, Vegas AI DeHaze is indistinguishable from the BorisFX version. Great start!

Editing my current project in it that I started in VP21. I of course saved it under a different name just in case. But so far, so good. For me, with the system in my Signature below, no crashing after several hours of editing. I do manual incremental saves anyway.

I tried the Beat Detector. Before I used Vegasaur. While they both give a slightly different take on the "beat", it's great to now have it built into Vegas.

Still more to explore, but so far, off to a great start! Well done Vegas Devs!

Bofus wrote on 7/30/2024, 9:14 AM

Slideshow project in VP21 load in 16 seconds but it takes a 1minute and 14 seconds to open in VP22. Update of thumbnails is also similarly slow in VP22. AI Haze Remover butchers blues skies with lots of artifacts.

Reyfox wrote on 7/30/2024, 10:04 AM

Not seeing that "butchering" here. @Bofus start a new thread with examples of what you are referring to.

I tested installing it English and it works just fine!
FYI in order to force the installer to prompt for a different language than the system's I used this command

C:\DOWNLOADS\vegaspro22_dlm_je96k4.exe -force

Ok the software runs in English now but it's not a problem for me. Thanks a lot for your help!

Reyfox wrote on 7/30/2024, 10:15 AM

@Guillaume-AUTIER glad you at least got it to start up for you! That doesn't solve the French language issue though. I'm sure they are working on it.

We would work on the problem if we could get someone to respond to customer support and provide the information we need (basically, a dump file generated from Task Manager) so we can figure out what is causing the hang. We cannot fix something which we cannot reproduce on our systems. At this point, we do not even know what specific component is causing the hang. We suspect it is the hub window, welcome screen or the hub explorer, but we really have no clue.

and you don't want to cooperate on solving the bug with 4k mxf with me? I will give you all the information.

I'm pretty happy with the CGP improvements. No more performance hits when grading with Hue v. Hue and Hue v. Sat, or adding a LUT. All good with Preview Best (Full) and 4K HEVC.

I am getting some odd error events with ntdll.dll, perhaps when Vegas self terminates. Not sure, but working through it.

I see it still does a VST full-scan upon startup, so when it hits my steinberg instruments, the error logs runneth over. Back to manually adding paths to specific directories.

And I am not quite understanding the audio synch thing, but alas, using Syncaila to align my Zoom F3 with scratch audio is my tried and true workflow.

Bad to hear this, anyway give AudioAlign (which is open source) a chance.

@fr0sty

Thank you for your message. I'm just sorry that Derek or someone else from the developers didn't answer. For several years now, I have been regularly publishing bugs that I sometimes find even when I don't have to. Feedback from the developers would be great.

A simple sentence like you wrote is enough - thanks for the warning, we know about the error and are working on a fix.

I will know that I don't have to write on the forum anymore and I don't have to constantly remind myself.

fr0sty wrote on 7/31/2024, 5:48 AM

They don't have to write on the forum either, this is a user forum. They are in no way obligated to post here. The only way to communicate with them directly is via the official support channels. When they do post here, they are doing so on their free time, but they don't have that much free time being that they're busy doing what we want them to, diagnosing and fixing bugs.

RogerS wrote on 7/31/2024, 6:16 AM

Though when I've told others that before I then got a developer replying to the thread to say no need to contact support so it's inconsistent and unclear.

Heh. Yeah, that's on me. I haven't studied it much, other than thrashing around. My current round-tripping takes me 30 seconds anyway.

I will have a closer look once I have sorted out more pressing issues.
