There is a ton of ways to do this. However, do you want to do this solely within the TEXT GenMed?

Here's a Quick 'n Dirty for you!

Hi Grazie, thanks for you answer!

The black transparent bars should be only behind the text. It's important that I can do it fast because I don't have only one picture in which I need to do it but a movie with changing subtitles.

1. Track: Text
2. Track: Black picture (Pan&Crop and transparency with tracklevel)
3. Track Video

My example does this. However, for flexibility, do demo NewBlue TITLER Pro. You can create your own Thirds and adjust/edit text content at will. Marvellous!

Why not add outline to the text? I would prefer that over the huge black bars.

If you embed subtitles in the video the deciding program should have that option. IE subtitles on a DVD or on youtube.

Protype has a background option that creates a solid bar behind your text.

👍

Outline and a little black shadow with the oldest texteditor.

Thanks you all! I did it now like this and it looks good and it was much easier than with the bars :)

You're welcome! Nice to see people get what they want.

The "outline and shadow" is common in USA. Here in Scandinavia TV never do that. The standard is semitransparent black bars with white text on top. It is always easy to read. I do that too, and I admit it is tedious because you have to adjust each title manually to the length of the text so the bars are no too short and not too long. They should just sit behind the text, not more.

My method is to use the Legacy text editor, type the text, and add a black backgrund within the text editor. I then use the Pan&Crop to crop the backgrund to the right size.

So I am also curious if there is a better way to do that. Some kind of automation that would make the black bar adjust itself to the length/breadth of the text and height too, without me having to do it manually for every text. There can be hundreds of text bars in a film, so automation would be great. Anyone?

Did you try protype? With your method a script can automatically do this too.

Protype has a built in function that does this. You can set all parameters including color and transparency. You cannot adjust the size of the box though. It is automatic.

Right David-Tu. I use Protype too. Very flexible and fast. In Text Edit Mode, Style, Background .. You can easily make a preset in Protype to do this .. I usually add a space at the beginning and end of each title.

Xberk, good tip about the space at beginning and end.

In my continuing effort to learn something new every day, I did this to reinforce what I learned from THF, david-tu and xberk.

Now, I can go out to play.

xberk wrote on 4/21/2017, 3:46 PM

Great job John_dennis ... The last step would be to make a preset of that title to speed things up for next time. One point for ProType!

I forgot to mention that you can make a preset for any generated media and it will make a new preset you can drag and drop to the tl.
