Anyone know why my Vegas 13 don't save the sfk files and I have to wait about 20 minutes for SV to builds peaks every time I open the project. The last project i worked on it did save them in the same folder as the video but now it its getting annoying and time consuming waiting for it to load..

An alternative to SCS's approach is to do what Adobe does. Before you can do anything you have to create a project folder, and all the rubbish gets put in there. When you are sure that you have finished with your project, delete the folder and *POOF* it's gone.

I used to hate this project folder creation when I used to use Premiere Elements. I prefered the instant start approach of Vegas.

sorry peter, but i find MASSES of junk files using adobe ae (even after deleting the 'project') - *.aecache - and i really do mean MASSES. i understand their necessity, but not the fact that they simply don't clear themselves when closing the program. adobe argue that it saves rebuilding them and you can 'clear cache' via menu. huh...

Have checked that the folder is not read-only and that your permissions allow you to write to the folder?

"It's too bad there's not a option to designate a specific folder for SFK and SFL files."

Unfortunately that isn't possible. The metadata files have the same root name as the A/V files they're generated from. Windows / DOS lets you have files with the same name, but they must be located in different folders (or as us old foke called them sub-directories). If you had two audio files in your project with the same name but from different folders, the metadata files could not be placed in a common folder because of a file name clash.

Hello,

Why dos Vegas creates .sfk and .sfl files each time you import, render, capture footage?

I usually clean those extra files via explorer because so many files confused the viewing and searching of files (and it did not change anything - does it mean these files are useless?)

Is there any way to tell Vegas (I'm using vegas 8.c) to stop creating these files?

Thank you
Videojohn.

Hey! What I do is I copy/paste all the files I will be using into a folder before I start editing and then after I am finished and all the sfk files have been created in that folder, I just clear the folder. It makes it really easy!

What I do is ... for quite some time i've been using Directory Opus file manager. In it you can have files display differently based on the extension. Example, I set them to look like the "quote" just above, greyed out. That way there less intrusive when viewed in a directory of files.

I don't think I would go so far as to call it a "bug" so much as an ides that's worth exploring further!

Directory Opus can also be used to hide the files, I prefer the "dimmed" version I posted earlier, otherwise easier to forget about them.

Thank you JN-

I've been using Directory Opus since 2006 (version 8 and now Dopus 12), and newer knew about this possibility.

JN-, Directory Opus indeed seems like a handy little tool to have around.

JN- wrote on 4/30/2021, 6:52 AM

@Steve_Rhoden Yes. Pricing is reasonable and flexible for what great features it has. I'm soon going to replace my laptop, I still will like to keep DO on the old one then. So it’s possible to simply purchase/add a third machine licence, ~ 42 Aus. $.

I've been using DO for about a year now and I have not truly explored all of its options. The ONE thing I don't like about it is that, unlike File Explorer, it is not per monitor dpi aware. If you use only FHD or UHD monitors or a laptop, no problem. However, if you have both on your system like mine, the display is "clear" only on your main display. Display on others is really blurry and quite annoying. Other users (including me) have complained but the developers to date seem uninterested in addressing the issue or it may be too difficult given the complexity of DO.

I've also discovered another issue with DO for use with Vegas. If you choose the setting to replace Explorer with DO (which makes sense), it will crash Vegas if upon render completion, you choose to open the folder. No problem with Explorer, but on my system at least, it consistently crashes Vegas.

@wwaag "If you choose the setting to replace Explorer with DO (which makes sense),"

I do that of course ...

Although using it since version 8, like most things in my case, I usually only work on a need to know basis. So I have only scratched the surface of the program.

I never experienced that crash issue you mention, mainly because I never use that option, open folder on render completion. I usually have that folder already open and just go to it, outside of VP, but of course within DO.

So I just tried that now, I rendered out the Benchmarking 4K project on my laptop to FHD, but no crash when I had that box checked in the render dialog, and it did open the folder, with the rendered file highlighted, nice feature in VP.

The only second display to my laptops FHD is a Dell 27" QHD, so no noticeable issues, other than my own old eyes.
